Juan Manuel Marquez to face Tim Bradley? Rumor Mill Is Churning Over Last Two Fighters To Beat Manny Pacquiao

News

This story is in its infancy but, as can be said in any walk of life, “where there’s smoke, there’s fire.”  The smoke in this case appears to be that on September 14, 2013, Timothy Bradley (30-0) will defend the WBO welterweight title against Juan Manuel Marquez (55-6-1).  How did we get to this point?

It all started on Monday when Steve Kim of Maxboxing tweeted that Mike Alvarado (34-1) had agreed to face Manny Pacquiao (54-5-2) in the fall.  Kim followed up that tweet by specifically stating that while Alvarado had agreed to face Pacquiao, no financial terms have been agreed to and it is unknown in the Filipino superstar has agreed to the bout.

It was widely assumed that Marquez would face Pacquiao in a fifth fight because that would be the biggest pay day for the aging Mexican boxer.  However, since Kim’s tweets, speculation has run rampant that Marquez would turn his attention to the undefeated Bradley who is coming off of a fight of the year candidate against Ruslan Provodnikov.

Earlier today, Dan Rafael of ESPN tweeted that a Bradley-Marquez bout has not been agreed to.  However, ESPN in Latin America is running stories about the fight as if it is official.  Stay tuned…
