The Voice 2013 – Team Shakira and Team Blake Performance Round Review

Reviews, Shows

I’ve caught up on the rest of The Voice from this week, and I thought it was pretty good. Click through for some thoughts on the performances and results.

Team Shakira

Garrett Gardner – “Imagine”
I like Garrett. I think he could go far in this competition, he’s got a nice voice and an inherent charm. I know Garrett isn’t the most impressive singer in the competition, but I think he has the potential to be a real recording artist.

Kris Thomas – “When I Was Your Man”
I love this Bruno Mars song, and to boot it was recently performed very well by Candice Glover on American Idol. Even trying not to compare this version to the original or Candice’s cover, it wasn’t good.

Karina Iglesias – “Let’s Stay Together”
I like Karina, but I thought this was a weird song choice for her. I like that she can be a rocker chick and can also do something more classic like this, but her performances haven’t really displayed what kind of artist she’d be in today’s music scene.

Sasha Allen – “Oh! Darling”
I wish Shakira would choose more contemporary songs. I like Sasha a lot, but this kind of felt like a cabaret performance to me.

Team Blake

Holly Tucker – “How Do I Live”
Holly seems like a sweet girl, and she has a good voice. But this was a boring performance.

The Swon Brothers – “Fishin’ In The Dark”
This isn’t really my kind of music. I mean, they’re OK, right? But nothing special. I certainly don’t think they’ll win this.

Justin Rivers – “Meet In The Middle”
Justin is probably a perfectly good singer, but this music just isn’t really my kind of thing.

Danielle Bradberry – “Maybe It Was Memphis”
I like Danielle. She has a nice, clear voice and she’s pretty adorable. I can certainly see her having a career in country music, and I think she’ll probably make it the farthest on Blake’s team.

Results

Team Adam: Amber Carrington and Judith Hill were safe, as it should be. Adam chose to save Sarah Simmons, which meant Caroline Glaser was eliminated – and even though it was probably the right decision, I personally preferred Caroline.

Team Usher: Michelle and VEDO were safe – I wasn’t surprised about Michelle, but I was a little surprised about VEDO. Usher chose to save Josiah Hawley, who I do really like, which meant Cathia was eliminated. I liked Cathia, but Usher didn’t seem to care for her.

Team Shakira: Kris Thomas and Sasha Allen were safe, and I was disappointed that Kris was safe – I thought his performance was really weak. I’m very glad that Shakira saved Garrett, because I adore him, but it’s too bad that Karina went home before Kris.

Team Blake: Danielle Bradberry and Holly Tucker were safe, which was not surprising at all. Blake chose to keep the Swon Brothers over Justin Rivers, a decision I agreed with.

The only person I thought went home too soon was Karina, because I knew Cathia didn’t stand a chance on Usher’s team anyway. I hope Garrett starts to get more votes, because he’s actually my favorite on Team Shakira. Right now, I think it looks like Danielle Bradberry or Judith Hill will take this. What do you guys think?
