Last issue Catwoman was taken prisoner by the Secret Society, and this issue she promptly escapes to go take a look around what she presumes to be their headquarters. She finds portraits, globes, and what may be a map of the Batcave before being confronted by Professor Anthony Ivo. She attacks him and makes a break for it, only to be confronted by more members and subdued by Copperhead.
She wakes up chained to a chair with the palefaced leader interrogating her, and she’s obviously not just handing over information. He pulls a gun and she threatens him with Batman and the unholy vengeance of her presumably angry Dark Knight hook-up-buddy. Unfortunately, that’s what the Society wants.
So they shoot her in the head.
Catwoman…dead?
But her book isn’t cancelled, and it’s still being solicited for the upcoming months with a new story arc. The Annual dropped yesterday to no real fanfare as well. The biggest tell, though, is that DC hasn’t milked this for media attention. Now, maybe that’s just a Marvel thing, to mass market deaths for sales, but one would have to think that DC would want some publicity if they were truly intending to kill off one of the most iconic female characters in all of comics.
It’s a cool moment, but I can’t imagine it lasting.
