Former TNA X-Division, TV & Tag Team Champion Confirms His Release

News, Top Story

In what originally was thought to just be a removal from the active roster, current OVW trainer Douglas Williams has been released from TNA Wrestling. Williams tweeted,

“Thank you to all the great fans support during the past four years. Time for bigger and better things… A huge shame I won’t get the chance to train with Rampage Jackson. What an honour that could have been.”

The former X-Division, TV and Tag Team champion was removed from TNA’s website on Wednesday along with Jesse Sorenson and Alex Silva. While Sorenson has recently taken a backstage role with the company after suffering a career-ending neck injury in February of 2012, there has been no official word on Alex Silva’s status.

Harrak’s Thought: Williams is a big loss for the company, especially in their developmental facility. This truly was a surprising move. As far as Alex Silva goes, it should be noted that Silva was the infamous first contestant of TNA’s “Gut Check” as we know it today. The rumor was that Ric Flair, one of the judges of “Gut Check” at the time, changed his scripted answer from a “no” to a “yes” and thereby rewarding Silva with a TNA contract. Since then Silva has only been seen on Impact a handful of times and has spent most of the last few years in OVW.
