Justice League #21 Spoilers: What Shakes Loose From The Captain Marvel Shazam Family Tree? (UPDATED)

News, Spoilers

Justice League #21 hit today. It features the conclusion of the back-up feature that debuted Shazam, formerly Captain Marvel, to DC Comics’ New 52. Penned by Geoff Johns and pencilled by Gary Frank, the back-up series has been intriguing with a new take on the franchise that seems like an appropriate evolution.

We get a moment in this month’s issue that is in keeping with Golden Age’s Whiz Comics #21.

1941’s Whiz Comics #21 saw the debut of the Lieutenant Marvels to Shazam “Marvel Family” lore, namely Fat Marvel, Hill Marvel and Tall Marvel, while 2013’s Justice League #21 sees the debut of the extended Shazam Family. I have included Justice League #8’s (below left image) introduction of the kids in Billy Batson’s new foster family as a frame of reference for the Shazam Family panel in this week’s Justice League #21 (below right image). Cool, huh? But, not totally unexpected.

UPDATED: Higher resolution images below. Previous image is available here.

I am really hoping for a Shazam ongoing in October 2013. Fingers crossed.
