Last night on Raw, WWE set up the main event for SummerSlam: John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship:
However, they also set in motion the idea that the McMahons will be heavily involved in this matchup that I believe already sells itself:
The speculation is that not only will the heavy fan favorite Bryan be facing Cena, but in a way Daniel will also be trying to prove Vince McMahon wrong. Stephanie herself furthered this line of thinking last night after Raw ended, tweeting:
“No worries Brad Maddox I’m sure Vince McMahon will love John Cena vs. Daniel Bryan for the WWE Championship at Summerslam @TripleH”
While I understand the concept of Bryan being marketed as ultimate underdog in Vince’s eyes who just doesn’t have what Vince thinks it takes to be the face of the franchise, I also feel like we as fans are already way beyond that line of thinking with Bryan ourselves.
Therefore, I say this: Here’s to hoping the McMahons’ heavy involvement in this matchup — which is pointing towards being too heavy for my taste — doesn’t convolute this huge moment for Daniel Bryan.
After all, Bryan has already shown he can carry the load of a main eventer without their help, hasn’t he?
