Healy-Nurmagomedov, Schaub-Mitrione added to UFC 165

News

A pair of bouts has been added to September’s UFC 165 event. Lightweights Pat Healy (29-16 1 NC, 0-1 1 NC UFC) and Khabib Nurmagomedov (20-0, 4-0 UFC) will square off, while a heavyweight bout between Brendan Schaub (9-3, 5-3 UFC) and Matt Mitrione (6-2, 6-2 UFC) has been rescheduled for the event. The StarPhoenix first reported the rescheduling of the Schaub-Mitrione bout while Valetudo.ru first reported the Healy-Nurmgomedov booking.

Healy is looking to get back into the official win column as he fights for the second time since returning to the UFC. He officially submitted Jim Miller at UFC 159 in April, but the win was overturned to a no contest after Healy failed a post-fight drug test due to marijuana. Healy had won six straight fights officially before the no contest.

Nurmagomedov has won all 20 of his professional fights, and the last four have come inside the Octagon. He last fought at UFC 160 in May, where he recored a UFC-record 21 takedowns in a decision win over Abel Trujillo. He has also scored wins over Kamal Shalorus, Gleison Tibau and Thiago Tavares during his UFC stint.

Schaub and Mitrione were scheduled to fight at this weekend’s UFC On FOX 8 event before Mitrione was forced out of the bout. It was said that the fight would be rescheduled, and the two former NFL players will now meet on the September card. Both men are looking to score back-to-back wins following losing streaks. Schaub defeated Lavar Johnson at UFC 157 in February while Mitrione defeated Phil De Fries at UFC On FUEL TV 9 in April.

UFC 165 takes place on Sept. 21 from the Air Canada Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Jon Jones will defend the UFC Light Heavyweight Championship against Alexander Gustafsson in the night’s main event, and a second title fight, Renan Barao defending the Interim UFC Bantamweight Championship against Eddie Wineland, will be the night’s co-main event.
