Watch: Mark Wahlberg & Taylor Kitsch Fight For Survival In Peter Berg’s Lone Survivor Trailer

Media, Trailers

Lone Survivor‘s tag line is simple:”Live to tell the story.” As the title implies, audiences should expect to see only one person come out alive, but don’t let that detract you from Peter Berg’s latest, which is based on more than a true story, it’s based on “true acts of courage.” This is a film about four Navy SEALs that were part of the failed June 28th, 2005 mission “Operation Redwing.” Their target was to capture or kill the notorious Taliban leader, Ahmad Shahd. Needless to say, the operation becomes fubar, leaving these four members of SEAL Team 10 with few options. Mark Wahlberg headlines a talented cast that also includes Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch and Ben Foster.

Here’s the first full trailer courtesy of Universal and Moviefone.

Peter Berg looks to rebound after the terrible misfire that had been last year’s Battleship. Considering he’s basing his film from the best-selling non-fiction work Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and the Lost Heroes of SEAL Team 10 as opposed from a Hasbro board game, well that’s already a step in the right direction. Mark Wahlberg plays Marcus Luttrell, the only surviving member of the operation. It was Luttrell’s intent that the film be as realistic as possible, only this time we actors instead of real Navy SEALs (a la Act of Valor) recreating the mission. The film was shot in New Mexico in late 2012. It’s slated for a limited release on December 27th, before going wide on January 10, 2014.

Could its late December bow indicate that Universal is looking to play spoiler this Oscar season? While the studio also has the Focus Features release Dallas Buyers Club in early December, Universal doesn’t have any major awards seekers in November or December.

In addition to the trailer, the studio has dropped the official poster for Lone Survivor. Check it out.
