Jessica Eye signs with the UFC, could meet Sarah Kaufman in her debut

News

The UFC has added a new member to their women’s bantamweight roster as free agent Jessica Eye (10-1, 0-0 UFC) has signed with the UFC, and she could be making her UFC debut relatively soon as an opponent for Sarah Kaufman (16-2, 0-0 UFC). News of Eye’s signing came on Tuesday’s edition of UFC Tonight, where word first came of the potential match-up against Kaufman. MMA Junkie reported the fight could take place at UFC 166.

Eye was recently released from the Bellator Fighting Championships promotion as the organization dissolved their womens’ divisions. Eye has won seven straight fights including back-to-back wins over Zoila Gurgel and Carina Damm. Eye has won ten of her eleven professional bouts. She has been fighting at 125 pounds but will be moving up to the 135-pound division as she moves to the UFC.

Kaufman was slated to make her debut at next week’s UFC Fight Night 27 event, but was recently pulled after an opponent was unable to be secured to replace her originally scheduled opponent, Sara McMann. Kaufman is a former Strikeforce Women’s Bantamweight Champion and was looking to notch her second straight win after defeating Leslie Smith.

Should the fight take place at UFC 166, it will be a part of a stacked card on Oct. 19 that will be headlined by a trilogy bout between UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez and former UFC Heavyweight Champion Junior Dos Santos.
