UFC featherweight and rising star Conor McGregor (14-2, 2-0 UFC) was hoping to fight in October in Manchester when the UFC returns to England, and then fight on the year-end UFC 168 card in Las Vegas, but those plans have been squashed as McGregor got some unfortunate news on Thursday.
McGregor has been diagnosed with a torn ACL, an MCL strain and a meniscal tear of his posterior horn and will be sidelined for ten months. UFC President Dana White delivered the news on Thursday night’s edition of “FOX Sports Live”.
McGregor suffered the injuries during his win over Max Holloway at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night 26. McGregor noted he felt his knee pop during the second round, and he used dominant ground control to pick up his second UFC win, and his tenth straight win overall. After the post-fight press conference, White said they planned on having McGregor see the UFC’s doctor, and that visit took place on Thursday where the unfortunate injury was discovered.
McGregor is still making noise despite the diagnosis, as he took to his Twitter account to call out all of the top-ten ranked featherweights, and even traded insults with lightweight fighter Diego Sanchez. Everything McGregor had planned has now been put on hold, though, as it looks like he won’t be returning to fighting until a year from now.
