10 Thoughts: WWE RAW 9.30.13 (CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Big E Langston)

Columns, News, Reviews, Top Story

1. It was nice to have Punk open up the show and it made me reminiscent of the 434 day reign when Punk would constantly have at least 2, sometimes 3 segments per Raw. It hearkens back to the Raws that felt like CM Punk was putting the entire show on his back. Of course, I’m not only singing the praises of this Raw’s booking order because of my adoration for Punk, I’m doing so because it created the illusion that they were going to take it easy on the Corporation angle for the night. Of course, we still got plenty of Corporation stuff but it definitely felt lessened from previous weeks and that’s fine. This HHH power story has been front and center for a solid 2 months now and so it’s good to kind of pull back a little.

2. Big E Langston sighting! Been kept off the show the last month or so reportedly to begin a big push. Not sure how a quick loss at the top of the show fits into this “big push” but that shows just how much you can trust certain internet rumors. I do like Big E and if he can find a way to project his twitter persona on his on-screen persona, he’d be golden. Also, he finally got a little bit of legging on his ring gear so we don’t have to see that much Big E Cheeks anymore.

3. The Wyatts came out to threaten Kofi (I guess) for no real reason. My patience is running thin as, I’m sure, yours is as well.

4. So we’re going to get a tag match at Battleground between Shield and the Rhodes brothers. If the Rhodes win, Cody gets his job back and Goldust gets a job of his own. Still would’ve preferred if Cody ultimately earned his spot back on his own as way to massively build him up. However, I’m very much interested in the increased involvement of Goldust. Possibly this is a way to bring him back into his old producing role, either way, I’ll be glad for it. I do think Cody should be brought back now while the story is still hot, especially after the build over the past month. If they wait much longer, we rung the risk of it growing stale and WWE doesn’t get the payoff that they’re wanting.

5. So Heyman pulls the “proposal” to Ryback, assuming this was done since they were in the deep south and played into their usual overly conservative disposition. Turns out they weren’t too far off when you heard so many people yelling “We The People.”

6. I was amused by the Punk trap and the fake injury. Although there was a slight moment where I was kinda waiting for Punk to be setting up a trap where an expected ally would attack and help Punk out. Does Punk really need help? He may be the best in the world but the opposing body count is starting to get a little excessive. Yes, I’m kinda going against myself considering how I just said Cody would be better off accomplishing his goals by himself. However, Cody doesn’t have a guy like Brock Lesnar lurking or having matches against a habitually careless worker like Ryback. Sure, the more odds stacked against Punk will make the triumph that much more impactful but I would rather someone else be accidentally injured because of Ryback.

7. That huge gust of wind you felt during Raw was the collective wrestling world slapping their palms against their face during the debut of Los Matadores. I’ve always been a fan of Primo and Epicos work as team which seemed to be improving week to week all the way until they were taken off tv. Now they get a terrible gimmick with horrible gear and a talented little person to serve as their mascot. So pretty much this is what I was expecting with all those promos which is the wrong time for WWE to actually meet my expectations.

8. Looks like the Cesaro swing is going to be a regular thing, which seems odd considering he’s getting a positive reaction from mostly everyone. I do think Cesaro is going to be a face soon regardless if
WWE wants to or not based on people finally catching on to his ring work.

9. I know this happened on Smackdown but it was mentioned on Raw so therefore it’s fair game. The fact that this happened now makes me feel far less guilty when somebody berates me for not watching Smackdown ever. I enjoy Santino and all but this is just…no.

10. Did you hear that Daniel Bryan and Brie got engaged? Did you hear that Daniel Bryan and Brie got engaged? Did you hear that Daniel Bryan and Brie got engaged? I’m sure Stephanie’s Bed, Bath and Beyond gift card is in the mail. Big Show is probably crying over how beautiful the moment was. Sin Cara applauded them and promptly injured both arms. Mark Henry ran to congratulate them and blew out the other hamstring. Great Khali slowly gave Daniel Bryan a head nod, careful not to move anything belt his waist. All while AJ skipped around with a boombox and loudly playing “I Hit It First.”
That being said, I’m still surprised Randy didn’t RKO Brie after taking out Bryan at the end of the show. Although I’m sure that will probably be in their future plans.

Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do twice,
Chris
