Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan Lives On In Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit Trailer

Media, News, Trailers

It seems more than a coincidence that a day after bestselling author Tom Clancy, 66, passes, that Paramount Pictures would unveil the first trailer for its upcoming Christmas release of Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.

Tom Clancy first introduced the character of Jack Ryan to readers with 1984’s The Hunt for Red October. That novel as well as Patriot Games, Clear and Present Danger and The Sum of All Fears have been made into feature films. Over the course of four book-to-screen adaptations, Ryan has been portrayed by three actors: Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford, and Ben Affleck.

The latest to take lead is Chris Pine. Pine has already shown that he can fill the shoes of an already famous character on screen, having played Capt. James Kirk in the Star Trek reboot and its sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness.

With Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit Pine once again ventures to reboot territory playing Ryan as a young covert CIA analyst that uncovers a Russian plot to crash the U.S. economy with a terrorist attack. This original story from Adam Cozad and David Koepp incorporates characters created by Clancy, but that’s where the similarities end. Kenneth Branagh, who recently directed Marvel’s Thor, helms the action-thriller as well as has a supporting role. Also starring are Keira Knightley, Kevin Costner, and Colm Feore.

Paramount Pictures will release Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit on Christmas Day.
