On Saturday I had the chance to interview So You Think You Can Dance 10‘s Makenzie Dustman and Paul Karmiryan on October 5, 2013 just before their Live! Tour Stop at Casino Rama in Orillia, Ontario.

There is no question that Makenzie and Paul were my favorite couple on the show and Makenzie in particular was the standout for me this season. My professional opinion is that she would have easily won any other season that she was on, but ultimately was up against the stiffest competition in So You Think You Can Dance history where the competition was the fiercest that I have ever seen on the show.

The chemistry she shared with Paul (a previous winner of the Armenian version of SYTYCD) was undeniable and while their partnership didn’t last nearly as long as it should have, they still combined for many of the season’s most memorable routines.

I specifically enjoyed their Week 4 hip hop routine that was choreographed by Dave Scott and featured Makenzie playing a 1930s model with Paul taking on the role of a photographer. The performance earned them their first standing ovation from the judges.

I also thoroughly enjoyed their Week 2 jazz routine that was choreographed by Sean Cheesman where Makenzie played a mannequin and the performance certainly put both dancers on the map as far as being serious contenders for the ultimate crown.

In our interview, we discussed a variety of topics including their run on the show and if they felt it was too short. We also talked about what they felt were their best dances on the show and chatted about what life has been like on the tour so far. Check out the video above!
