Murtz On The Scene: Exclusive Tour Interview With So You Think You Can Dance 10‘s Amy Yakima & Fik-Shun Stegall

On Saturday I had the chance to interview So You Think You Can Dance 10 winners Amy Yakima and Fik-Shun Stegall on October 5, 2013 just before their Live! Tour Stop at Casino Rama in Orillia, Ontario.

While I had previously interviewed Amy and Fik-Shun at their finale (where they were announced as America’s Favorite Dancers), I couldn’t wait to catch up with them again and find out how things have been going since the show.

The electric chemistry that resulted from their partnership is undoubtedly what propelled both Amy and Fik-Shun to their respective wins and the manner in which they were paired was certainly a topic that I was curious about and wanted them to elaborate upon when I sat down with them.

We also joked about them having their own VIP section on the tour bus as they join their fellow contestants on the 42 city-tour. I also kidded the pair about it being a bad year to be a blonde girl on the show, as this season was heavily dominated by the brunettes (including Makenzie, Jenna, Hayley and Amy with Malece being the only blonde to crack the Top 20).

I talked about my theory with Fik-Shun about hip hop dancers having a big advantage on the show as the voting public and viewing audience seem to identify with dancers that are not formally trained and learn the choreography naturally on the show.

I also asked them about their favorite performances on the show as well as the All-Star that they most enjoyed working with.
