Welcome fight fans to Inside Fights’ live coverage of UFC Fight Night 29 from Ginasio Jose Correa in Barueri, Brazil. The fight card will be headlined by a five-round welterweight bout as Demian Maia takes on Jake Shields. ROUND 1- We start off with two lightweights making their UFC debuts. Marc Goddard officiates the night’s opening bout. They touch gloves to start. Patrick misses a front kick to start but rushes in and gets a brief takedown. Patrick working to keep the fight on the mat and gets Whiteley on his rear end against the cage. Whiteley gets to the feet but eats an elbow from Patrick. They get up and break. Patrick misses a left hand. Patrick lunges in with a combination and lands a flying knee. The crowd begins to chant for Patrick. Whiteley eats a groin shot from a kick and there is a break in the action. We get back to work and they take the center of the Octagon. Patrick lands a spinning kick and pushes Whiteley against the fence. They clinch and Whiteley turns it around and misses on a takedown. They break and Patrick lands an uppercut. Patrick misses a left hand. Patrick then lands one following by a spinning elbow. Patrick with a lunging knee that lands and he has Whiteley off balance. Whiteley misses on a head kick. Patrick with a leg kick. Whiteley misses a right hand and Patrick ties up with him but they break quickly. Patrick with a glancing head kick and he attacks the body. Whiteley rushes in and lands a knee. Whiteley with a leg kick. Patrick lands a big left hand that knocks Whiteley down. Patrick storms in with ground-and-pound and Whiteley is in a lot of trouble. It is over. Goddard steps in and stops the fight as Whiteley was eating a lot of punches. Patrick with the TKO win!

Iliarde Santos (27-8-1 1 NC, 0-2 UFC) vs. Chris Cariaso (14-5, 4-3 UFC)

ROUND 1- Up next is a flyweight bout with two guys looking to get back into the win column. They touch gloves to get things underway. Cariaso starts with a body kick as the crowd begins to chant. Both men feeling each other out and they trade leg kicks. Cariaso with a head kick. Cariaso with another head kick. Santos with a body kick. Cariaso with a combination and then a head kick. Not much action going on. Cariaso with another leg kick. And then another. They tie up and Santos gets a trip takedown and is in side control. Santos moves into mount for a moment and lands some right hands and is on top. Cariaso looks to use the cage to get to his feet but Santos transitions and gets the back mount. Santos looks for a leg lock and Cariaso spins onto the top. Santos lets go and gets up and they both are on their feet. Santos looks for the takedown against the cage but Cariaso is defending it well. Santos with some body punches and they split as Santos lands a spinning elbow. Santos with a body kick. Cariaso with a nice combination. Santos lands a big left hand against the cage that hurts Cariaso. They trade body kicks. Cariaso with a one-two combination. Santos goes for a takedown against the cage but can’t get it. They tie up against the fence as Santos drops for the takedown and he plants Cariaso on his back. Santos is in Cariaso’s guard and lands some nice punches from the top in a good position to end the round. 10-9 Santos.

ROUND 2- Cariaso starts with a head kick and lands one to the body. Cariaso with another head kick. Santos and Cariaso trade exchanges and both are battering each other with punches. Santos lands some nice punches and Cariaso counters with a combination. Both land big punches and Santos lands a couple of knees that rock Cariaso. Cariaso lands a right hand that wobbles Santos. Cariaso with an uppercut that rocks Santos and Cariaso lands a left hand that stumbles him. Cariaso coming on strong and he gets Santos down. Cariaso landing punches from the top and he is in serious trouble. Cariaso in the guard and he lands some hammerfists. Santos survives and gets to his feet and lands a big knee. Santos is on wobbly legs on the feet. Cariaso misses a big right hand. He lands one and Santos is hurt again. Santos is bleeding. Cariaso lands a right hand and Santos goes for a takedown but Cariaso defends. Both are beginning to show signs of fatigue. Both land right hands and Cariaso just misses an uppercut. Cariaso with a body kick and Santos fires back with a right hand. Cariaso lands a straight left hand and has Santos is more trouble. Cariaso lands a nice combination and Santos is trying to survive. Cariaso with a knee to the body and he is landing big punches against the cage. Santos is in more trouble and the referee stops the fight. Santos was still on his feet but eating a lot of punches. Big win for Cariaso.

Yan Cabral (10-0, 0-0 UFC) vs. David Mitchell (12-3, 1-3 UFC)

ROUND 1- Cabral makes his UFC debut with an undefeated record. Mario Yamasaki will oversee this fight. Mitchell misses a leg kick to start things off but backs Cabral up with some right hands. Mitchell with a jab but Cabral lands a leg kick in return. Carbal quickly grabs the back of Mitchell and drags him to the ground and locks the hooks in. Cabral looking for the rear-naked choke and he ends up on top as Mitchell transitioned from his back. Cabral transitions into mount and is landing big right hands from the top. Mitchell tries to find a leg lock but Cabral ends up in side control. Cabral moves back to the back mount and has the hooks in looking for the choke. Mitchell escapes and ends on his back and Cabral lands a right hand from the top. Cabral tries to transition into side control but stands back up. Cabral passes into side control and is trying to transition to the back. They get back to the feet and Cabral is still looking to take the back. They go back down but get right back up. Mitchell has Cabral against the cage and they break. Mitchell misses on some punches and Cabral lands a back fist and grabs the back of Mitchell. Cabral looks for the takedown against the cage but Mitchell is defending it. Cabral with some knees against the cage. Mitchell lands a couple of punches and the round comes to an end. 10-9 Cabral.

ROUND 2- Mitchell fires off a combination to start off but then gets dropped with a counter right hand from Cabral. Cabral jumps on top and lands some punches from top and Mitchell is looking to escape. Cabral goes to the ground with Mitchell and tries to establish mount. Mitchell goes for a leg lock but Cabral escapes and is on top in half-guard. Cabral with an elbow from the top. Cabral looks to set up a head-and-arm choke. Cabral remains in half-guard. Cabral tries a guard pass but instead stands up. He goes back down and is in side control. Cabral looks to take the back of Mitchell. Mitchell looks for a standing kimura as both get to their feet. Mitchell rolls Cabral but Cabral escapes and ends up in side control. Cabral with some right hands from the top. Mitchell looks to set up a triangle choke but Cabral escapes to his feet and lands from a standing position. Cabral goes down into Mitchell’s guard and is looking to set up a choke. Cabral transitions into side control. Mitchell moves and Cabral takes his back. They get to their feet but Cabral drags the fight back down. They get up and Cabral drags it back down again. They get back up as we have ten seconds left. Cabral with some knees to the thighs and the round ends. 10-9 Cabral.

ROUND 3- Mitchell probably needs a finish in this round to get the win. Mitchell backs Cabral up with some right hands. Cabral lands some kicks but Mitchell pressures him to the cage. Mitchell lands some right hands in the tie up against the fence and they break. Cabral lands a right hand. Cabral ducks a right hand from Mitchell and scores a takedown. Mitchell looks to set up an omaplata but Cabral lands some right hands from the top. Cabral passes guard. Mitchell looks to set up a kimura. Cabral stands up and lands a right hand and ends up in mount. Cabral with some punches and elbows from the mount as Mitchell tries to escape. Mitchell turns over and Cabral moves into back control. Cabral has the hooks in and is looking to lock in a choke but Mitchell escapes. Cabral with a right hand in side control. Cabral moves back to Mitchell’s back and then back to side control. Cabral gets to his feet and Mitchell tries to land some upkicks. Triangle choke attempt from Mitchell but Cabral escapes and passes guard and has the back yet again. Cabral has a head-and-arm choke locked in but Mitchell is hanging on and escapes. Cabral back into half-guard and the end of the fight comes near as both land punches. This looks to be an easy decision win for Cabral as he dominates the fight. 10-9 Cabral.

Ildemar Alcantara (19-5, 2-0 UFC) vs. Igor Araujo (23-6 1 NC, 0-0 UFC)

ROUND 1- Araujo makes his UFC debut in this fight. Touch of gloves to start. Araujo lands a head kick to start and looks for the takedown. They switch positions and Alcantara has an underhook and lands a left hand. Araujo looks for a double-leg takedown but it is stuffed. Alcantara throws Araujo down to the ground but they get back up. Alcantara with a body kick. Araujo goes for a takedown but can’t get it. Alcantara with a knee to the leg. They trade knees. Both looking for the takedown as they are tied up against the cage. Alcantara with a knee to the body. Alcantara has him against the cage. The crowd begins to boo as not much action is going on. Alcantara gets the fight down and is on top but Araujo sweeps though Alcantara ends up back on top. Alcantara with an elbow from the top. Alcantara gets to his feet and lands a punch from the top. Araujo gets up and looks for the takedown. Alcantara has a choke locked in as they’re standing. Araujo drops down and finds a way to escape and ends on top. Araujo in side control. Araujo in the guard of Alcantara. Araujo with some right hands from the top. Araujo postures up and lands some more punches. Araujo with some ground-and-pound as the round ends. Araujo stole the round late. 10-9 Araujo.

ROUND 2- Araujo has a big mouse underneath his right eye. Araujo rushes in for a takedown but Alcantara defends it and lands a knee. Araujo then rocks Alcantara with a right hand and they put distance between each other. They tie up and Alcantara lands a takedown. Araujo looks for an omaplata and lands some right hands. Araujo transitions to a gogaplata but Alcantara escapes to his feet. Alcantara with some punches from the top and steps away. Alcantara with some body punches from the standing position to Araujo on the ground. Alcantara drops back down into Araujo’s guard. They both get to the feet and Araujo fires off a right hand. Alcantara with a body kick. Araujo with a right hand and Alcantara counters with his own and gets a takedown. Araujo reverses and ends up on top. Araujo lands right hands from the half-guard. Araujo with some more punches from the top. Araujo with an elbow. Araujo looks to set up a choke but lets go. Araujo with more punches as the crowd boos some more. Not a lot of action as Araujo is landing soft punches and Alcantara isn’t defending well. Araujo postures up and lands a combination of punches from the top. ROUND 3- Alcantara is very tired coming out for the final round. Araujo with a side kick and then another. Alcantara rushes in and tries a knee that misses. Araujo misses a big right hand but lands a leg kick. Araujo goes for a takedown but Alcantara sprawls nicely. Araujo then trips Alcantara and takes him down and is on top. Alcantara looks for a kimura from the bottom. Araujo with an elbow to the body and then lands some hands to the face. Araujo looks to set up a choke from half-guard. Araujo with some shots to the body of Alcantara. Alcantara looks for a heel hook but it isn’t locked in tight and Araujo escapes and is back into half-guard. Araujo with some more right hands from the top. Araujo with some more punches from the top as Alcantara doesn’t have an answer for it. Alcantara looks to lock in another leg lock but Araujo escapes with some more punches. Araujo with more punches from the top as he looks to be cruising to a win with a minute left. Alcantara looks for another heel hook attempt but not a lot of force into it. Araujo with more punches as the crowd boos again. Araujo with a right hand and drops down with some ground-and-pound. The round comes to an end as Araujo finishes strong and that fight is over. 10-9 Araujo.

Dillashaw just misses an uppercut. Dillashaw with a head kick and Assuncao comes back with a leg kick. Dillashaw with a left hand then follows with an overhand right. Assuncao with a head kick. Dillashaw with a big takedown and is in the guard of Assuncao. Assuncao escapes to his feet. Assuncao misses a leg kick. Dillashaw with a nice combo. Assuncao with a right hand. Dillashaw misses a big right hand and a big head kick. Assuncao with a nice one-two combination that lands. Dillashaw with a leg kick. Dillashaw with a big head kick. Assuncao with a leg kick. Dillashaw fakes a takedown and then takes the back of Assuncao. Dillashaw has the back and Assuncao is on his feet. Dillashaw has a standing rear-naked choke in. Assuncao goes down and it is still locked in. Assuncao gives a thumbs up. Assuncao gets out but Dillashaw locks it right back in and it is tight. Dillashaw lets go but still has the back. ROUND 2- Assuncao starts with a leg kick that stumbles Dillashaw. Assuncao with a short left hand. Assuncao with a leg kick. Dillashaw lands a kick but gets his leg caught and Assuncao lands a leg kick. Assuncao with a body kick and then misses a head kick attempt. Assuncao with a left hand. Dillashaw with a head kick. Dillashaw tries a kick but gets his leg caught and eats a big right hand from Assuncao. Dillashaw is fazed and goes for a takedown but Assuncao sprawls and locks in a guillotine choke. Dillashaw tries to roll out but Assuncao still has it locked in. They push against the cage and Dillashaw is in good position to escape. Dillashaw gets to his feet and escapes the front headlock. Dillashaw with a combination. Both men land punches and Assuncao rocks Dillashaw with a left hook. Both miss on punches. Assuncao slips to the ground and tries to get Dillashaw down but can’t. Dillashaw gets a takedown and has the back of Assuncao. Dillashaw is bleeding from the nose. They get to their feet. Dillashaw lands a knee. Both land punches. ROUND 3- They touch gloves to start the final round. Assuncao with a body kick. Dillashaw tries to a jumping kick but falls to the ground though he gets up. Dillashaw with a knee. Assuncao misses a leg kick. Dillashaw fakes going low and lands a head kick. Dillashaw with an uppercut and Assuncao counters with a combination. Dillashaw looks to set up the takedown with a fake low and head kick combo. Assuncao drops for a takedown but can’t finish it. Dillashaw lands a knee and sprawls as Assuncao goes for a takedown. Assuncao misses a head kick. Assuncao misses a front kick as Dillashaw as his range down. Both land punches against the cage. Assuncao with a straight jab. Dillashaw goes for a takedown but it is defended. Dillashaw rocks Assuncao with a left hook and they trade combinations. Assuncao with a head kick. Dillashaw makes Assuncao run with a combination. Dillashaw with a brief takedown and they lands a right hand as they get up. The fight is winding down and both look to make a last impression. Dillashaw with a big right hand. ROUND 1- Palhares debuts at 170 pounds. Pierce immediately gets a takedown and Palhares looks for the leg lock that he’s known for but Pierce escapes to his feet. Palhares then grabs the leg and locks in another leg lock and Pierce is in trouble. Pierce taps out! A quick win for Palhares with another leg lock. Palhares kept that locked in long after Pierce tapped but it is a win for Palhares nonetheless.

Fabio Maldonado (19-6, 2-3 UFC) vs. Joey Beltran (14-8 1 NC, 3-5 1 NC UFC)

ROUND 1- A fight of the night contender could be coming here. Both men feel each other out with jabs to start the fight off. Beltran misses on some punches and Maldonado lands a jab. Beltran pushes Maldonado against the cage and looks for the takedown. Beltran with some body punches and Mario Yamasaki calls time for a possible groin strike. Yamasaki warns Beltran. The action resumes. Maldonado attacks the body with a right hand. Both men exchange punches and Beltran pushes Maldonado against the fence. They battle for underhooks. Beltran with an uppercut. Both exchange body punches and Beltran lands a knee. Beltran with some big punches to the body of Maldonado. Beltran grabs Maldonado’s neck against the fence and lands some uppercuts to the head and body. Beltran showing good dirty boxing in the clinch. Beltran with an elbow and then a knee. Beltran tries to trip Maldonado but can’t. Maldonado with uppercuts to the body. Beltran has Maldonado pushed against the cage well. They exchange short punches. ROUND 2- Beltran lands a stiff jab to start the second round. Maldonado backs him up with a straight right hand. Beltran misses a big right hand and Maldonado counters with a nice jab. Beltran backs Maldonado with a nice combination. Beltran attacks the body again and lands a leg kick. Maldonado attacks the body and then the head with uppercuts. Both land body punches against the fence. Maldonado lands a big uppercut that rocks Beltran and then moves back to the fence and taunts Beltran to hit him. Beltran obliges and then locks up with Maldonado looking for the takedown. Beltran with a knee followed by two elbows over the top. Beltran lands some nice punches to the body. A break is called by Yamasaki as Maldonado lost his mouthpiece. The action continues with Maldonado landing a series of jabs. They trade exchanges. The crowd comes alive as Maldonado lands a solid combination. Maldonado with a nice jab. Maldonado begins to find his range. Beltran goes for a weak takedown attempt and it is stuffed. Maldonado attacks the body while they are tied up and then lands an uppercut. Beltran misses on a big right hand and Maldonado is countering well. Maldonado lands three straight jabs. Both men trade punches and they trade wildly as the round ends. A close round but Maldonado may have stolen it at the end. I’ll give it to him. 10-9 Maldonado.

ROUND 3- They trade wildly to start the final round as Maldonado makes Beltran eat the jab. Beltran backs Maldonado up with a combo. Maldonado with a body kick and then lands some good combination punches. Beltran lands a big right hand that rocks Maldonado as he presses forward. Beltran fakes a takedown. Beltran pushes Maldonado against the fence but not before Maldonado lands a right hand. Maldonado with some body shots as they clinch against the cage. Beltran looks for the takedown against the cage but Maldonado is blocking with underhooks. Yamasaki orders a break against the fence. Maldonado lands a jab. Beltran misses on a combo and Maldonado makes him pay with a combo in response. Maldonado urges Beltran to hit him. Beltran lands a big right hand right to Maldonado’s face. Beltran tees off on Maldonado and then pushes him against the cage. Maldonado lands body punches as they’re tied up against the fence. Maldonado lands a right hand to the groin of Beltran and Yamasaki calls for a timeout to let Beltran recover. They resume action and both land some punches. Beltran backs Maldonado against the fence and gets a takedown from a front headlock. It may steal him the round. Maldonado is bleeding from the mouth. Beltran with some knees to the body against the fence. Maldonado tries to get to his feet and Beltran lands some punches and is finishing strong. Beltran tees off on Maldonado to end the fight. It was Maldonado’s round early but Beltran’s late, so it will be interesting to see the judges’ scorecards. I have it for Beltran and the fight overall for Beltran. 10-9 Beltran.

ROUND 1- Both looking for their second straight win. Silva missed weight for this fight. Hamill starts with a leg kick. Hamill gets a takedown off a punch attempt but Silva gets up quickly. Both exchange leg kicks. Silva with a leg kick. Hamill with a leg kick. Hamill goes for a takedown but can’t get it. Silva with a right hand and Hamill lands one. Silva with a leg kick and Hamill gets rocked with a punch. Hamill with a leg kick. They trade kicks and Silva attacks the body. Silva with another inside leg kick. Silva attacks the body. Silva mixing his strikes well between punches and kicks. Silva with a big right hand. Both exchange punches and Silva lands a kick. Silva backs Hamill up with a body punch. Silva lands a combo and Hamill tries a takedown to no avail. Hamill with a nice punch to the liver. Silva with an inside leg kick then two on the outside. Silva with a straight jab. Silva breathing heavy as he lands a punch but Hamill counters with a nice combination. Hamill with a slow combo that backs Silva up and the round ends. 10-9 Silva.

ROUND 2- Silva misses an inside leg kick and Hamill trips him up with a leg kick. Hamill lands a nice combo but Silva makes him eat some punches on the outside. Hamill with a spinning elbow. Hamill with a left hand and looks for the takedown and gets it. Silva gets right back up and they break. Silva with an overhand right. They trade punches as Hamill attacks the body. Hamill with a combo but Silva ends it with a leg kick. Silva hurts Hamill with another series of leg kicks. Hamill with a combo to the head and body. Silva with two straight jabs and Hamill trips him up with a takedown attempt. Silva misses a head kick. Hamill with a leg kick as the pace has dramatically slowed. Silva lands a big right hand that stuns Hamill. Two more uppercuts and Hamill has been dropped. Silva gets on top and has the back and is landing big right hands. Hamill gets back up and survives as Silva didn’t take a lot of advantage of Hamill being in trouble. Hamill is hurt on the feet and Silva is landing kicks and punches. Hamill tries a weak takedown and can’t get it. Silva tees off on Hamill some more with punches. Hamill tries a takedown but Silva defends it though Hamill gets him down as ten seconds are left. Hamill with some punches as the round ends. Silva’s round though. 10-9 Silva.

ROUND 3- Silva starts with an inside leg kick as both look exhausted coming out for the final round. Hamill goes for the takedown but Silva sprawls and defends well. Hamill still on the ground and Silva rushes to his back and is landing punches to Hamill’s noggin. Silva with a jab followed by a leg kick. Hamill goes for another takedown but not even close. Silva with a leg kick followed by another as he is really punishing Hamill’s legs. Silva with an uppercut followed by a jab. Silva with a leg kick and Hamill is feeling it. Break in the action as Silva was poked in the eye. Hamill misses a weak left hook attempt. Silva attacks the legs of Hamill yet again with kicks. Hamill just lands an uppercut but not a lot of power in it. Silva again attacks the legs with kicks. Hamill pushes Silva against the cage and is looking for the takedown. Silva with a left hook followed by a leg kick. Silva with a leg kick and Hamill grabs his leg but escapes. Silva with more big shots on Hamill as Hamill pushes Silva against the cage. Hamill misses the takedown again and eats some punches. Silva with a straight knee. Silva lands a right hand and Hamill is in survival mode. Hamill is the more exhausted fighter, and that isn’t saying much. Hamill eats a knee and two big leg kicks and can barely stand. 20 seconds left and Hamill is trying to survive but keeps eating leg kicks. Hamill looks to be done but will make it to the end. 10-9 Silva.

ROUND 1- Time for the co-main event of the night. Big test for Silva, and for Kim for that matter. Both come out as southpaws. Silva lands a big punch to start. Kim goes for the takedown but Silva defends it. Silva lands a knee and rushes away from Kim. Kim looks for the tie up and is trying to get this fight to the mat. Kim misses a right hand. Kim misses badly on a spinning back fist. Silva with some knees in the clinch. Silva lands a nice combo including some knees to the body. Kim forces a tie up against the fence. Silva escapes and runs away. Kim rushes in with a right hand but lands an uppercut. Kim misses another spinning back fist. They tie up again and Silva lands a knee to the body. Silva with a right hand and then falls down after a punch and Kim jumps on top. Kim takes the back of Silva and the moves into mount. The crowd boos Kim being on top. ROUND 2- Kim immediately rushes in trying to avoid separation. Silva begins to rock Kim with a right hand and then a flying knee and is punishing him against the cage. Silva drops Kim with an elbow and Silva pounces on him. Kim survives and gets to his feet and has Silva pushed against the cage. They break and Kim misses a front kick. Kim with a head kick. Kim rushes in with some punches but Silva escapes and lands an uppercut. Silva swings and misses a left hand. Silva with a knee to the body. Both are beginning to slow down and breathe heavy. Silva misses an uppercut but lands a right hand. Silva with a kick. Silva misses a spinning elbow. Silva rocks Kim with an uppercut and then a big right hand but misses another. Silva has a body lock and Kim cheated and held onto the cage to block a takedown. Kim with a front kick and Silva counters with a right hand. Kim then lands a big uppercut and down goes Silva. Silva is out cold and Kim lands a big punch to finish it for good. Kim with his first KO since 2008. And he may have all but sewn up the bonus for the night for best knockout.

ROUND 1- Time for the night’s main event which will be officiated by Marc Goddard. The crowd is pumped up for Maia. Shields with a leg kick to start it off. Maia drops for a takedown following a leg kick from Shields. Shields defends it. They’re pushed up against the cage. Maia trips Shields up and gets him down to the ground. Maia with some punches from the top. Maia tries to improve and lands some more punches to the face of Shields. Shields gets to his feet and is looking for the takedown himself. He can’t get it so he pushes Maia against the cage. Maia gets Shields down to the ground and is looking to get into the guard. Shields gets up and Maia takes his back. Shields swings his hips and gets Maia down and is now in half-guard. Shields tries to transition out of the guard but Maia holds him. Shields with an elbow to the head of Maia. Maia with some punches from the bottom. Shields with punches from the top. Shields with more punches to the body and head. Maia tries to push him off but Shields keeps his position and rides the round out. 10-9 Shields.

ROUND 2- Shields with a kick to the legs followed by to the body. Shields drops for the takedown but Maia reverses and looks for one of his own. They battle for the takedown against the cage and Shields ends up on top. Shields is in Maia’s guard. Shields tries for an elbow but it is blocked, but then he gets some in. Maia tries to use the cage to wall walk and get to his feet. Maia looks to push Shields off but Shields maintains focus and posture. Shields sits out from the half-guard and is looking to pass. Maia tried to throw his legs up but Shields knew it was coming and blocked. The crowd begins to boo. Shields tries to pass guard but is having trouble doing so against the cage. Shields with more punches from the top as Maia is unable to do much of anything. Shields with an elbow from the top. Shields looking for a guard pass but Maia is looking to use the cage to set up a triangle choke. Shields pushes the fight away from the cage and we are drawing near the end of the round. Not much action wise. 10-9 Shields.

ROUND 3- Shields starts with a leg kick. Shields misses a head kick. Maia misses a left hand but Shields comes back with a leg kick. Both exchange punches. Maia lands a left hand and Shields goes for a takedown but it is stuffed. Maia has Shields up against the cage and is looking to get this fight to the mat. Maia almost gets it but Shields counters and they break on the feet. Maia lands a nice left hand and ties up with Shields. Maia has his back and takes this fight down to the ground. Maia looks to get the hooks in and Shields is able to roll out and ends up on top. Nice reversal from Shields as Maia had the position in his favor. Shields in the half-guard and is landing to the body from the top. Maia tries to sweep as Shields looks to pass guard. Shields still trying to pass as he lands some soft shots from the top. Marc Goddard warns them to improve position. Shields having trouble landing punches as Maia is blocking them with his arms. Shields with soft body punches. Maia with a punch from the top. Shields with an elbow from the top as the round ends. Maia’s round early but Shields could’ve stolen it late. 10-9 Shields.

ROUND 4- Maia lands a nice right hand to start the fourth round. Shields with a head kick but it is checked by Maia. Shields goes in for the takedown and has Maia against the cage. They are tied up against the cage and Shields is warned about holding Maia’s shorts. Both looking to take this fight down and not much happening otherwise. Neither man can get this fight down and it is a real battle for position. Goddard threatens to break it up and does and the crowd approves. Shields with a head kick that is countered with a left hand from Maia. Shields goes for a single-leg and Maia defends it and they get back up. Nice sprawl from Maia. Shields goes for another takedown and can’t get it and Maia gets on top and is in guard. Maia with some left hands from the top. Maia with soft shots to the body. Both are beginning to tire out. Maia with body punches. Goddard warns them again to improve ground position. Goddard stands them up and the crowd boos, but there wasn’t much action happening. Maia with a body punch as Shields lands a kick. Shields with a head kick that is checked. Maia with a nice left hand and the round ends. 10-9 Maia.

ROUND 5- This round could decide it despite us having Shields up 3 rounds to 1. Shields lands a soft body kick. Maia looks to unload with the left hand. Maia lands a right hook followed by the left hand. Shields with another soft body kick that is checked. Shields rushes in but nothing lands. Shields goes for the takedown but Maia sprawls nicely and they stand back up. Shields with a head kick. Shields for the takedown but Maia defends it but Shields still has the single leg. Shields pushes Maia against the fence looking to drag it down to the mat. Goddard warns them to work and Maia reverses position and has the double underhooks. They break as Maia lands an elbow. Shields with a head kick. Shields goes for another takedown but gets nothing. Maia blocks a head kick from Shields and then lands a nice left hand. Maia with a left hand as he checks kicks from Shields. Shields goes for another takedown but Maia defends it well as they get against the fence. Maia with punches from underneath. Goddard with another warning. Shields still trying to get it down but Maia has good defense. 30 seconds to go and they are broken up by Goddard. Maia with a right hand over the top. Maia with a left hand. Maia finishing strong with a left hand and the fight comes to a close after 25 minutes. We have this round for Maia but the fight for Shields. The scorecards will be interesting. 10-9 Maia.
