If we didn’t already know that Superman was such a fixture of pop culture, this video from Warner Bros. Animation, in which Man of Steel director Zack Snyder and “Superman: The Animated Series” co-creator Bruce Timm condense the legacy of Superman in two minutes, cements the fact.
A combination of traditional hand-drawn and CG animation highlights the Man of Steel’s ascension from comics to the realm of TV and film.
Beginning with his first appearance on the cover of Action Comics #1 (back in June 1938) – you know the one, where he hoists a car above his head – the remaining two minutes see Supes leap towers in a single bound, take the animated guise of George Reeves, who played the famous superhero on television, to the character’s appearance on Saturday morning’s “Super-Friends.” Of course there’s also references to Christopher Reeve’s interpretation as well as Henry Cavill in the most recent Man of Steel.
Added bonus is the transition from John Williams’ legendary score to the one Hans Zimmer orchestrated for Zack Snyder’s film.
Now then, definitely watch and enjoy the video below. Count the number of super-villains and total references, then sound off in our comments section.
