Internal WWE Memo Leaked; New “Banned” Words & Phrases

News, Top Story

Recently an old WWE internal memo featuring some more of WWE’s infamous “banned phrases” found its way online. Here are a few of the more interesting bits:

– Vince McMahon no longer wants “Granddaddy of Them All” used to describe WrestleMania because he feels it makes the event feel “old”.

– The terms “five star match” and “match of the year” are not to be used. Vince also wanted all announcers to “stop reading the dirt sheets” thinking that it influences what they say on the air.

– Stephanie McMahon directed the announcers to stop using the phrase “the referee didn’t see it” when a heel is doing something behind the referee’s back. She feels as if this comes off as the announcers talking down to their audience. Stephanie prefers the phrases “the referee’s vision was impaired” or “the referee’s vision was blocked.”

– Announcers may never use the word “hatred” or “hate” when describing a feud. It also should never be said that a talent doesn’t care about winning a match.

Harrak’s Hit: These memos used to come out a few times a year and were never really too much of an issue. The examples given were more of an update to what language is to be used on the air than anything controversial.
