Battle of the Atom Spoilers: Who Stays? Who Goes? How Does The Status Quo Shake Up?

Spoilers

The final issue of Battle of the Atom proved to be…eventful, to say the least. There were deaths, mainly with the X-Men of the future, additions to casts, subtractions from others, and the status quo is taking a hard shift for one of the X-Books.

First up, the death list! Marvel promised us plenty of death in the late days of this event, and up until now the death toll consisted of…Deadpool and Molly. Brotherhood members. So it was time to really get down and dirty and make us gasp and cringe and feel like cursing the writers names, right? Well, first up we have evil future crazy Beast getting shot through the chest by a SHIELD sentinel.

X-Men - Battle of the Atom 002-006

Yes, the Sentinel is more worth looking at than Beast getting shot. Also, better than future Jubilee getting shot in the back by a sentinel and going down as well. Future Xavier fries the mind of mustache Colossus, and is almost maimed by Illyana for his attempt at vengeance. Not totally sure how he managed to escape from that, but hey, he does. Then there’s Xean, that super bitch future version of everybody’s favorite red head.

X-Men - Battle of the Atom 002-018

She died really well. Though I don’t have any idea how she turned into a walking bomb, when we’ve seen plenty of future Jean’s in the past, and even a regular adult Jean before she died, and she was never, you know, a bomb.

In the aftermath of everything one of the future X-Men chooses to stay behind at the Jean Grey school, Kymera…Storm’s daughter. Which should make for a far more uncomfortable conversation than it does.

X-Men - Battle of the Atom 002-023

Seriously, what’s up with that? Storm makes it seem like she doesn’t mind if this girl she just met calls her mother. This girl with a big black panther, and Storm fresh off an annulment from…the Black Panther.

But the big thing? Kitty is pissed! So pissed that she is done and out and finished with the school, she quits rather than stick around with these people who completely ignored her throughout the entire event. The X-Kids agree with her, and they don’t want to stay with the people who were going to send them back without even talking to them. Jean calls for their ride.

X-Men - Battle of the Atom 002-030

And just like that, the New Xavier Institute gets a whole host of new members, Kitty gets to go hang out with her best friend, and at the end of the day….Scott wins.

Everything feels kinda right.
