UFC 168 Live Results and Play by Play – John Howard vs. Siyar Bahadurzada

Welcome fight fights to our UFC 168 live play by play and results. For this last fight card of the year we’re going to try and do something different by giving each fight its own blog post, to make it easier to read and follow.

John Howard vs. Siyar Bahadurzada

Round 1: Both guys a little tentative to start as both look to be going for one big shot. Howard with a nice right and avoid a counter. He’s looking to set up a big strike but Siyar is doing just enough to make him not throw it. Howard is trying to get inside but Siyar is using his length advantage to keep Howard on the outside. Howard with a double leg and Siyar grabs the clinch, back against the cage. We’re playing the fence game for a bit as both guys are looking for the takedown. Siyar circles out and we’re back to the tentative striking game. Howard is starting to flash that left hook as Siyar is trying to turn this into a brawl. Double leg and can’t connect, second one and he’s got a takedown and half guard. He looks to grab mount and Siyar rolls to his stomach, giving up his back and a scramble leaves us on our feet. Howard with a nice left as the round ends. 10-9 Howard

Round 2: Howard comes out and lands a big left and Siyar is wobbly, wild exchange and Siyar wobbles Howard with a counter of his own. Wild opening 20 seconds and we’re back to the tentative striking game. Howard is looking for that left hook and Siyar isn’t letting him land it. Howard goes for a single but can’t complete the takedown. Siyar with a double and Howard pulls full guard. Howard throws a triangle and Siyar bails, we’re back standing. Siyar to the clinch and we’re back against the cage. Howard with some big punches and Siyar bails. Howard is looking to throw that left some more and backs straight up, looking for the takedown. Double leg goes nowhere and we wind up back against the cage with a minute left. Howard works his way to a single and he hoists him up in the air and slams him straight down after walking across the cage. Siyar back up and we’re back against the cage as the round ends. 10-9 Siyar, 19-19

Round 3: Siyar is gassed and Howard goes for the double early, Siyar back against the cage. He backs out and Howard lands some big shots before taunting him. Siyar comes back with some strikes of his own and we’re back to the middle of the cage. Howard with some nice uppercuts and works his way to a sloppy single leg. He pulls full guard and Howard postures up to throw some strikes. Big shots from Howard as Siyar gives up his back in the scramble. He rolls for a leg lock and can’t grab it. Back into half guard as Howard works some ground and pound. Howard into mount with 90 seconds to go. Howard postures up and Siyar rolls to his stomach. Howard’s got both hooks in with a minute left and he’s looking to work for a RNC. Hand fighting to end the fight. Howard 10-9, 29-28

Official decision: Howard via unanimous decision (30-27×3)
