ABC’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Spoilers: Did Agent Phil Coulson Die During Avengers Movie? Tahiti Finally Revealed! (Season 1, Episode 11, The Magical Place Recap & Review)

News, Spoilers

In this evening’s Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Season 1, Episode 11 titled “The Magical Place”, we learn what happened to Agent Phil Coulson after the last episode where he was kidnapped.

SPOILERS

The organization Centipede wants to learn what happened to Agent Phil Coulson after the Avengers film where he seemingly died. throughout the Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D first season, an ongoing subplot has seen Agent Coulson trying to learn what happened to him; all he remembers is that he went to Tahiti and that it was a “Magical Place”.

With the help of a device that Centipede uses on him, Agent Coulson memories of Tahiti fade replaced by an operating room where his skull is open and a several tentacled robot is operating on his exposed brain; all the while Agent Coulson is begging to die. He’s lost his will to live and has been operated on at least seven times!

We don’t the know the origin of the robot or of it was used in conjunction with magic, science, etc., but we know that Agent Coulson wasn’t in Tahiti.

The reason Centipede wants the information of what happened to Agent Coulson after died – he was dead for several days not minutes as is in his file – is because despite the organization building their own super soldiers, they think with the knowledge of how Coulson came back to life so they can make their super soldiers unkillable or at least allow them to come back from the dead.

Overall, an interesting episode that showed the team galvanize to locate and save Coulson.

Interestingly, the Clairvoyant – the villain behind Centipede – seemingly can read minds (implied by the code name and what we’ve seen so far this season), but he/she didn’t know what happened to Coulson after “he died”. Now that Agent Coulson knows part of what happened to him, does the Clairvoyant know too?
