10 Thoughts On… The Real World Ex-plosion – Episode 2 Review

10 Thoughts, Reviews, Top Story

1. While I was initially skeptical of the Thomas/Jamie relationships, as I have never believed in the opposite attracts concept (otherwise I would be married to Trishelle), this episode definitely showed the chemistry that the frat boy and the rocker chick share. There is no question that their story will be the story of the season and I cannot wait until Hailey shows up. If Jamie was throwing chicks around just on a casual bar night, can you imagine what she is going to do to Hailey?

2. This episode also finally showed why Thomas was cast on the show. While he came off a little bland in the first episode, his true personality and character shone through in episode 2. When he was pressured about sex not being a big deal, he did not waver from his stance and this completely raised his likeability factor. He is reminding me more and more of Dustin Zito from Vegas and Dustin was one of the best male personalities to ever be cast on the show. Definitely a big week for Thomas.

3. Just as I had predicted in my opening column, Arielle is undoubtedly the Alex Govere of the season. I can’t see her ever losing her cool and I feel like she is settling into the narrator role of the season. It was nice to see her come out of her shell a little bit more in this episode, but seriously, how long do we have to wait until she starts making out with chicks?! Don’t tell me that isn’t what you are thinking too.

4. The subtle foreshadowing of Jay and Jenna’s relationship is fascinating. While almost all the other relationships were delved into in great detail on the past episode, the only reference to Jenna was when someone asked Jay a question in passing. Producers also made it a point to highlight how Jay “always gets numbers”, even if he is at a lesbian bar. The fact that they want to cement his role as the Don Juan playboy leads me to believe there is more to the story that will come out in future episodes.

5. I waver on Cory. I loved that he stood up for Arielle and was willing to go to blows (I wish we had seen more of what led to the fight) With that said, I didn’t like how he was treating Jenny in this episode.

6. Can I just say that I am HATING the transitions on the episodes this season. I understand that they are all in an effort to change the look of The Real World, but the “LATER,” “MEANWHILE,” “HOURS LATER” things are very annoying. They make the show look like a cross between Batman in the 60s and an Archie comic. I also HATE the countdown to the exes. We get it. They are coming in. By continuing to show the clock, it’s ruining the surprise factor.

7. I wonder why Ashley and Jenny’s night out went so poorly. They didn’t show it at all and I am sure there was a story there.

8. Jenny was hysterical in this episode. The best roommates are the ones who are comfortable in their own skin and Jenny clearly is. I don’t understand why Cory wasn’t digging the fact that she was dancing with another girl. Anyone else?

9. Everytime I watch the show, I want to eat Subway. Too bad it is 10 PM and there is no way I am going to walk to get it.

10. Who thinks someone will pull a CT and get kicked out for violence this season?
