UFC 172 Filling Up – Anthony “Rumble” Johnson Returns, Flyweight Contenders Matched up

News

UFC 172 is starting to fill up with some spectacular fights as the UFC announced two additions to the main in the past 48 hours.

Joseph Benavidez and Timothy Elliott are scheduled to face off. Benavidez is coming off a KO loss to flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and Elliott a decision loss to Ali Bagautinov.

Anthony “Rumble” Johnson will make his return to Zuffa after being cut in the wake of his loss/weight cutting debacle against Vitor Belfort at a catchweight fight with his proper debut at light heavyweight. Johnson, coming off a KO win over Mike Pyle at the last World Series of Fighting event, will face Phil Davis.

Davis is coming off a controversial split decision win over Lyoto Machida.

Luke Rockhold and Tim Boetsch has also been added to the card. Boetsch is currently 1-2 in his last three fights, notching a split decision win over CB Dolloway after a two fight skid to Mark Munoz (decision) and a TKO loss to Costa Philippou. Rockhold, the last man to hold the Strikeforce middleweight title, is coming off a TKO win over Philippou most recently.

UFC 172 will be a pay per view event and headlined by a UFC light heavyweight title defense as Jon Jones returns to face Glover Teixiera. Jones is coming off a decision win over Alexander Gustafsson and Teixiera a KO win over Ryan Bader.
