Murtz On The Scene: Exclusive Interview With The Voice Winner Cassadee Pope

Features, Interviews, Top Story, Video

I have never felt as old as I did this morning after I made the realization that is has been two years since my last conversation with The Voice‘s Cassadee Pope.

In 2012, Pope (a card-carrying member of Team Blake Shelton on the hit NBC reality program), was named the victor after securing more votes than runner up Terry McDermott (also a member of Blake’s team). Since our last interview, a lot has changed for the stunning singer from Florida.

Her album Frame By Frame debuted at the #1 spot on Billboard’s Top Country Albums listing and she also secured a Top 10 position in the all-genre Top Album category. Selling over 2 million tracks to date, Cassadee also scored the #1 position on iTunes Country Charts (only building upon her iTunes success from The Voice).

She opened on her first major Country tour with Rascal Flatts last summer, is currently on the road with Dean Brody’s Crop Circles & Tractor Beams Canadian tour and plans on touring with Tim McGraw this Spring.

In addition to her commercial success, Pope also starred in her own docu-series on CMT, Frame By Frame, a chronicle of her ascent in the music industry at large.

I had the chance to reunite with Pope in Toronto, on the eve of several of her Ontario performances. We chatted about a variety of topics including what the past two years have been like, the stigma of being a musical artist that was discovered on a reality show, and how her pop-rock Hey Monday fans feel about her transition to country. We also talked about her mentor’s thoughts on the new album, if she has plans to continue with another reality show and if she feels like she is part Canadian with all of her Northern influences and preferences.
