TUF Nations (Australia vs. Canada) – Episode 6 Review, “Chills and Thrills” – Dan Kelly vs. Sheldon Westcott – Review, Recap And Commentary

Top Story

Another week and another episode of “TUF: Nations” coming on. Apparently now we’re going to be on Fox Sports 2 on a regular basis, as well, because the ratings on Fox Sports 1 didn’t justify a continued position on the channel.

We start out with a quick recap of last week’s episode, and fight.

Team Australia is on a roll and Team Canada is a bit humble.

Sheldon Westcott has a knee injury that he’s bringing into tonight’s fight. He’s in pain and he’s a trooper with the doctor. He needs to tape his knee up but he’s ok to fight, apparently. Westcott is clearly favoring that leg, though, and it could be interesting when fight time happens as he’s facing a tough out.

Shenanigans in the house ensue as everyone is angling to set up semi-final matchups in their favor. It’s interesting to see everyone jockeying for position.

Team Australia is training hard with Izzy Martinez, who’s pushing them hard. Team Canada is doing the same.

Now it’s time to introduce both of our fighters for this week’s episode.

Dan Kelly was an elite judoka for nearly two decades, most recently competing in the 2012 games. Team Australia seems to be intimidated by one of their own. Kelly seems like a top talent on the team and has had a fairly interesting career; he took a 7 year break from being a pro MMA fighter to focus strictly on Judo. He’s finished in the Top 10 at the Olympics twice in the sport, as well. That’s incredibly impressive and his athletic career is filled with a ton of high level finishes. His clinch work is going to be special, or at least it should be.

Westcott is acknowledging his injury coming in, which is an interesting thing on a TUF show. His gameplan should be to keep away from Kelly, and avoid that clinch, but his knee might pose a problem in it.

Weigh-Ins: Both guys are on point.

Patrick Cote is at the GSP/Hendricks fight, UFC 167, in his capacity as the French announcer. The fights will be streamed to the guys in the house, which is nice. It’s a house party for the guys, as they eat and relax before the house fight.

Round 1: Westcott comes out like a bat out of hell and gets the takedown and back control quickly. Kelly rolls to his stomach and Westcott grab an arm triangle from half guard and Kelly taps at :55 of the first round. Wow. That was a shellacking of the highest order.

Kelly apparently blew his knee out early on.

Team Canada has the hammer back and we have a fight matchup. Olivier Aubin-Mercier vs. Jake Mattewhs
