While movies are nothing new to John Cena – having starred in WWE Films’ The Marine, 12 Rounds, Legendary, and The Reunion – the WWE superstar who we supposedly can’t see is in negotiations to be a member of Judd Apatow’s upcoming comedy Trainwreck.
Apatow, who is an uber producer when it comes to making comedies, and has written and directed the likes of The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Knocked Up and most recently This is 40, has decided to lay down his pen and let comedian Amy Schumer take over while he directs.
Though not much is known about the project in terms of story, what we do know is that Schumer will star along with Bill Hader (“SNL”), Ezra Miller (The Perks of Being a Wallflower), Colin Quinn (Grown Ups) and Brie Larson (Short Term 12).
In addition to discussions with Cena, Apatow is in discussions with Tilda Swinton (most recently in Wes Anderson’s The Grand Budapest Hotel) and Barkhad Abdi (recent Oscar nominee for Captain Phillips) for supporting roles.
Universal Pictures has slated Trainwreck with a July 24, 2015 release.
