The Chairman of the Board opened up to Forbes Magazine in a rare interview. What did Vince McMahon have to say about the state of the WWE, the WWE Network and his mindset as he approaches age 70? Check out some fascinating excerpts below and click here for the full story.
–Vince McMahon remains extremely driven to succeed right now rather than look back on past accomplishments or failures. This is the same kind of mentality that WWE top star John Cena has discussed during his own more interviews, so I guess that comes from the top down.
–McMahon talks about his thirst for life never being completely quenched, saying, “I have a voracious appetite, for life and everything in it. To a certain extent I will die a very frustrated man because I didn’t do this or accomplish that.”
–While Vince admitted that WWE can no longer be his main purpose or “sole vision” in his life, he said he would prefer the McMahon family to always stay involved in the WWE rather than sell the publicly traded company to outside parties. However, when it comes to the degree of financial burden that could be passed along to future generations, McMahon said, “I just think as times go on, things will evaporate. Eventually Uncle Sam sees the benefit. You can’t do anything without Uncle Sam taking a huge bite of it.”
–As far as the WWE Network launch is concerned, Vince discussed how he decided on the over-the-top model over other options. He said that he didn’t like the “per subscriber” fee he would have netted from cable companies for a traditional channel and didn’t like the deals that may have led to a premium channel option.
–On the Monday Night Wars, Vince admitted that the battle came down to “who was going to burn out before the other guy did,” referring to Ted Turner.
