Features, Shows, Top Story

The first round voting has ended and there were a few upsets. But like I said from the beginning the numbers next to show names don’t mean a whole lot if they don’t get voted to the next round. There were also lots of close match ups. Quite a few match ups came down to a single vote. Lets take a look at the first round action.

The ABC Region saw two “upsets”. #4 Glee lost to Eastbound and Down with 60% of the vote. #5 Survivor had a bigger loss to Doctor Who, who won with 73% of the vote. The Walking Dead dominated as expected with a 90% win. Most of the rest of the match ups weren’t all that close. The only close match up was #3 New Girl barely getting by Bates Motel with a 54% win.

The FOX Region also saw the same two “upsets” as the ABC Region. #4 Downton Abbey lost by 63% to Arrested Development. #5 Chicago Fire also lost by 64% to Person of Interest. #1 Burn Notice, #2 Modern Family, #8 Family Guy, and South Park all dominated with over 80% wins. But the rest of the match ups in this region were extremely close. Revolution beat Falling Skies by 1 vote. Mike & Molly also won by 1 vote over White Collar. #3 The Blacklist barely survived over The Simpsons by 3 votes. Workaholics pulled off a third upset in this region by beating #7 2 Broke Girls by 2 votes. This was by far the closest and most upset region.

The CBS Region only had one upset. #6 Duck Dynasty lost by 2 votes to Sullivan & Son. #1 Breaking Bad dominated with a 88% win. #5 Game of Thrones won by a even larger 93%. But #2 How I Met Mother had the biggest margin of the victory in the first round with 94%. Homeland also had a big margin of victory. Most of the rest of the match ups were closer. The Vampire Diaries won by 1 vote over The Newsroom. True Blood won by 1 vote over The Daily Show. Nashville won by 2 votes over CSI. The Following also won by 4 votes over Rookie Blue.

The NBC Region was the only region to have no upsets, but most of the match ups were either really close or blowouts. #8 Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., #5 NCIS, and #6 Sons of Anarchy had over 90% wins each. Revenge, #3 Pretty Little Liars, #1 Big Bang Theory, and Community also had big 80% wins. But #4 Grey’s Anatomy and #2 Scandal were almost upset. Grey’s Anatomy beat Ray Donovan by 3 votes, and Scandal beat Men at Work by only 58% of the vote. NCIS: Los Angeles beat Supernatural by only 1 vote. Other close match ups included The Colbert Report with a 4 vote victory over Elementary, Last Man Standing with a 3 vote win over The Millers, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine with a 4 vote victory over Vikings.

So a few surprises in the first round, and a few upsets. One thing is for sure, reality shows were not treated very kindly in this tournament. Only two of them have moved on to the second round. But now things could get interesting. The second round voting has begun. We have 64 shows left, so go vote and remember to tell everyone you know to vote too!

If you don’t know what this is all about, go back to the First Round Voting Page and get all of the details there. If you did vote in the first round, you should already know, so go check out the updated bracket for yourself by going here:

The second round polls will stay open for one week. Remember to tell all of your friends to vote as well!

I'm not embarrassed to say that my favorite television show of all-time is The O.C. I live by the motto "you can't fight fate!" More importantly, I watch WAY too much television, but I do so for the benefit of everyone reading this now. So to my mom and my wife, I say thanks for reading! To everyone else that might stumble across this, remember TiVo should be your best friend!
