C2E2 2014: All-New Marvel Now’s Top 5 Comics News With Avengers & X-Men In Axis, 100th Anniversary Special, Amazing Spider-Man 1.1 & More

News

C2E2 2014 happened this weekend in Chicago. It has become a comic convention fave of the comics professionals community as Wizard World Chicago sadly and slowly loses its luster.

While we thought the two big Original Sin news items deserved their own special focus, in addition to those two, we’ve sifted the news stories out of C2E2 from Marvel Comics and here are our Top 5 All-New Marvel Now stories.

Amazing Spider-Man #1.1 to 1.5 written by Dan Slott, artist Ramon K. Perez and cover artist Alex Ross will accompany the release of the brand new Amazing Spider-Man #1 and run parallel to it. The stories here will not align time-wise with Amazing Spider-Man #1, which takes places after Superior Spider-Man #31 (spoilers here), but will take place between the panels of Amazing Fantasy #15 and the first five issues of the original Amazing Spider-Man run from the 1960’s. Marvel Comics Senior editor noted that: “We’ll see things you’ve never seen like Uncle Ben’s funeral. You’ll meet Clash (see cover art on the right by Alex Ross), a villain from his earliest days… and you’ll see him show up in the present day later.”

Deadpool Vs. X-Force by writer Dwayne Swierczynski and artist Pepe Larrazhas features the Merc-with-the-Mouth take on the original X-Force before they were X-Force in their New Mutants run. “This takes place just before the first meeting of Cable and Deadpool – and for some reason they don’t remember it.”

The new Cyclops ongoing series will feature the time-displaced younger Cyclops from All-New X-Men in space alongside his dad Corsair and his Starjammers. The series will be written by Greg Rucka and drawn by Russell Dauterman and will be high space adventure with father and son. “Corsair is a playboy Han Solo type and Cyclops is a real straight arrow, a bit uptight, so that juxtaposition is really fun… and (Starjammer) Hepzibah is a huge part of the first issue.”

100th Anniversary Special is a weekly series with five one-shots focussing on the Avengers, the X-Men, Spider-Man, the Fantastic Four, and the Guardians of the Galaxy set in 2061, one hundred years from the release of Fantastic Four #1 in the Silver Age of Comics. “The Guardians of the Galaxy one-shot will by writers Andy Lanning and Ron Marz along with Gustavo Duarte. The Spider-Man centric issue will by Sean Ryan and In-Hyuk Lee. The futuristic X-Men tale will by Robin Furth and Jason Masters. The Avengers one-shot will by James Stokoe. And the Fantastic Four story is by Jen Van Meter and Joanna Estep.”

Marvel Senior Editor Nick Lowe added that “the characters themselves won’t be 47 years older any more than Peter Parker isn’t over 50 like he’d be if he were aging in real time, but they’ll have aged a little bit… So imagine 47 years from now (I’ll be a ripe 81 years old) when you’re picking up your favorite Marvel comics. I sure as heck better be retired by then collecting Nextwave theme-song royalties after that franchise becomes the biggest movie hits of the 2030’s and 40’s.”

Marvel’s big Fall 2014 event is called Axis and will feature the Avengers and X-Men. That’s all we know right now.
