DVD Review: My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic – A Dash of Awesome

DVD Reviews, Reviews

My daughter has entered what can only be called her “I want that My Little Pony!” phase. I must admit to being able to identify the pony she’s screaming to get at Toys ‘R’ Us. I don’t feel any shame. Even Anthony Bourdain knows his ponies thanks to his daughter. The new version of My Little Pony makes the child’s obsession rather acceptable. The various ponies have much better personalities than the original cartoon from the ’80s. The pony that’s the dazzling star of the series is Rainbow Dash. She’s hard to miss since her mane and tail are rainbow colored. My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic – A Dash of Awesome features five episodes with the speedy Rainbow Dash at the center. “May The Best Pet Win!,” “The Mysterious Mare Do Well,” “Read It and Weep,” “Daring Don’t” and “Rainbow Falls” are a fine selection that will keep the kid off your tail for two hours.

Here’s my daughter’s take on the collection:

The video is 1.78:1 anamorphic. The transfers bring out the sharp edges in the animation. The audio is Dolby Digital Stereo. You’ll hear the zip across the screen. The episodes are Closed Captioned.

Sing-Along will be used by the kids to keep up with the tunes.

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic – A Dash of Awesome are five episodes that move fast with Rainbow Dash at the center of the stories.

Shout! Factory presents My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic – A Dash of Awesome. Starring: Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, Fluttershy and Applejack. Set Contents: 5 episodes on 1 DVD. Released: March 25, 2014.
