Since we recently learned that Grant Morrison’s Multiversity and all three of DC Comics’ New 52 weekly series would end at the same time in Spring 2015, fans were wondering what did this all mean.
Certainly this week’s Forever Evil finale, MAJOR SPOILERS HERE, helped shape what the potential event of next Spring is and this theme was continued in this week’s new era Justice League with Lex Luthor, SPOILERS HERE.
Looks like Multiversity may not only be a Grant Morrison vanity project.
I’ve enjoyed the New 52: Futures End weekly series so far. It kicked off well with its Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) #0 issue. It continued into the issue #1 explosive cliffhanger followed by last week’s issue #2 shenanigans.
DC’s two other weekly series are Batman: Eternal and Earth 2: World’s End.
Before we get into my spoilers-filled review of DC Comics’ The New 52 Futures End #3, here’s a rundown of what you should know about recent DC New 52 goings-on:
- The original announcement revealed that the DC Comics New 52’s “Past, present and future all colliding in this story line.”
- The New 52 Futures End appears to have been seeded in cancelled series Legion of Super-Heroes and Legion Lost years before its launch.
- DC Comics has a Top 10 high-profile time anomalies that cannot be coincidentally at play with Futures End set to launch. That includes the recently returned Booster Gold!
- That also includes a new blue-hued “Future Flash” who we see from Flash #30 has a surprise hero is under that blue mask.
- Futures End is so important to DC Comics that it will be the focus of September 2014’s 3D cover event.
- Futures End had its “unofficial” stealth kick-off in cliff-hanger page to Aquaman and the Others #1.
- To hype the series, DC Comics also released a teaser image of what’s the come.
SPOILERS follow for DC Comics’ The New 52 Futures End #3:
While I am curious how Mister Terrific returned to Prime Earth from Earth 2, he is being portrayed either as a villain or anti-hero. I’m curious what happened to him and why he fears and see Batman in every nook and cranny? He even thinks that Batman Beyond may be the original Batman, who appears MIA, returned.
In addition, Lois Lane follows the clues she gleaned in issue #2 to discover that a Batman protégé still lives.
And, like last issue, the book ends with a teaser of next week’s The New 52 Futures End #4.
I am really enjoying the various threads that are being unwoven in parallel. Very nice to see Dan Jurgens doing some interior art on this issue in addition to his work as a part of the writing team.
Thanks for reading. All feedback welcome.
