Downton Abbey executive producer Gareth Neame offered new information about the shows upcoming fifth season which debuts January 4 on PBS.
In an interview with TVLine, Neame said that the new season would be a change from the norm for the series.
When asked about how Anna and Bates would deal with the after effects of Anna’s rape, the producer said that it would be a focal point of the season.
“I think it would be a bit soft of us to say that [they won’t]. There are certain stories on this kind of show that you pick up for a few episodes, then let fall away. This doesn’t seem like something that could happen to a character and be easily forgotten,” he said.
He also talked about a brilliant storyline for Dowager Countess, and while he was mum on the details, he did say hint that it would feature ‘a melting pot of the regular characters in addition to guest stars.’
