Nick Diaz Signs Contract Extension; Dana White Denies Reports Of Rumored Fight With Anderson Silva

News

Nick Diaz has signed a contract extension with the UFC and will return from his self-imposed exile according to UFC.com.

The logical opponent would be Anderson Silva, at least according to Silva’s camp as the Spider’s co-manager Jorge Guimaraes confirmed to MMAFighting.com.

Prior to his time away, Diaz lost his last two fights by decision in the UFC, starting with his loss to Carlos Condit at UFC 144 where he lost the interim title and then a decision to Georges St-Pierre at UFC 153.

While Dana White offered Diaz other fights including a rematch against Condit, Diaz decided to wait and cash in later on a bigger payday. If it was a strategy, it appears to have paid off as Diaz’s new deal is for three years with the first fight looking like it will take place in 2015.

“I’d be interested in fighting [Anderson Silva] and anything that’s going to do well,” Diaz said. “As far as Anderson Silva, I think that would be a great fight for people to see because he has my type of style.”

After the news broke, Dana White quickly took to Twitter to deny discussions of a Diaz/Silva fight have taken place.

There is no update on Anderson vs Diaz. Anderson can’t fight till Feb. Lorenzo and I have not even talked to Anderson, White tweeted.
