Junior Dos Santos Accepts Stipe Miocic’s Challenge; Eyes November Return

So Junior dos Santos wants to fight Stipe Miocic too.

Last week, we reported that Stipe Miocic still wants to fight dos Santos, and the former champion feels the same way. While UFC 179 on October 25 in Rio de Janeiro would be the perfect setting for the two heavyweights to lock horns, apparently it is off the table because dos Santos is still recovering from his a knee injury he suffered after only recently recovering from a broken hand.

“I saw this October card in Rio as a possibility,” dos Santos said. “But my coaches think it’s too soon to be back because I’m not even training hard yet and I need to readapt myself to training before starting a camp. October would be too early for me.”

While his broken hand kept him from fighting Miocic in May, this time around it is his right knee that is giving him trouble. dos Santos believes that it is a minor injury and is close to a return.

“He [doctor] cleared me to slowly return to training now to see how I’m going to feel,” he said. “I will schedule my next fight when I feel 100 percent ready. I talked to Joe Silva and explained everything to him, and I’m positive that I will be ready to fight again in November.”

As for who he wants to face, there is no doubt that the former champion is also excited about the prospect of beating the fighter who recently stopped Fabio Maldonado in with a 35-second knockout.

“Miocic is doing a good job, coming off great wins,” dos Santos said. “I was focused on fighting him before, trained for him, so I think it would be a good fight for me. It would be a beautiful fight for the fans as well.”
