SDCC 2014: Todd McFarlane Unveils New Toy Brick System

News

Todd McFarlane unveiled his take on a new, interlocking brick toy system. His first step into this format is with a stunningly amazing take on AMC’s The Walking Dead. On display at his both at San Diego Comic Con, we saw Daryl on his chopper, the governor’s mansion and a portion of the cell block. These sets are incredible. At first, it’s hard to believe that they are the same type of toy as Legos or even Mega Bloks, but they are. The pieces can be re-arranged and displayed however the consumer wants. McFarlane himself says that the wrong question to ask is, “Why do your blocks look amazing?” Rather, we should be asking, “Why haven’t the other guys been making them look this good?” We will see the line available commercially starting at Toys R Us in the middle of October. They are trying to make it coincide with the new season of The Walking Dead. In January, we should see the toys at other retail locations and available internationally.

The most exciting news is that Todd himself has said that if this works, then he would like to expand on this universe and maybe do other toy lines. Todd was excited about doing a special robot line that would allow you to build your own mech however you’d like. Because of the interlocking brick system, you would have the freedom to do so and, thanks to the incredible art style of Todd McFarlane, you know that it would look awesome.DSC06551
