Rory MacDonald vs. Tarec Saffiedine Set To Headline Halifax Fight Night Card

News

A Canadian UFC fighter has finally reached main event status and appropriately enough, Rory MacDonald will headline his first UFC event at UFC Fight Night 54 in Halifax Nova Scotia.

MacDonald (8-2) will take on former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine (1-0) and while no broadcast details have been announced for the fight, it’s expected that it will air on either FOX Sports 1 and/or UFC Fight Pass.

The UFC will feature a card earlier on the day as well as Fight Night 53 takes place in Sweden and will stream on Fight Pass.

MacDonald comes into the fight on a hot streak. He has won his last two matches, earning a “Fight of the Night” win over Demian Maia at UFC 170 and bested Tyron Woodley at UFC 174 in Vancouver. After losing to ‘Ruthless’ Robbie Lawler at UFC 167, MacDonald hasn’t really looked back.

Saffiedine was shelved until January with an injury and beat Hyun Gyu Lim in a “Fight of the Night” winner in the UFC Fight Night 34 main event in Singapore back in January. Prior to that, Saffiedine upset Nate Marquardt to win Strikeforce’s 170-pound title at the promotion’s finale.
