Normally, I would tend to turn a blind eye from seeing a 2D cartoon I know become a computer-enhanced 3D amalgam where the characters interact with human actors and nobody stops to wonder why this happening, but this first trailer for The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water looks like fun. I mean first we have Antonio Banderas aping Johnny Depp’s Jack Sparrow, if that’s possible, plus the ad making use of Guns n’ Roses’ “Welcome to the Jungle.”
While it has been ten years since the last SpongeBob movie hit theaters, the Nickelodeon show is as popular as ever. The crux of the story involves SpongeBob and his friends going on a quest to discover a stolen recipe that takes him to our dimension, our world, where he tangles with a pirate (Banderas).
The SpongeBob Movie: Sponge Out of Water is set to open one week before Fifty Shades of Grey on February 6, 2015.
