Randy Savage DVD News: WWE Prepping Documentary On The Macho Man As Part Of A New DVD And Blu-ray

Disc Announcements, News

Five years ago, World Wrestling Entertainment released a retrospective title on wrestling performer Randy Savage. Titled Macho Madness: The Randy Savage Collection, the three-disc DVD set would highlight some of the greatest matches and milestone moments for an entertainer who had as many outfits as James Brown. From his WWE debut in 1985 until his untimely death in 2011, “Macho Man” Randy Savage was a complicated man but rarefied talent. He’s had legendary feuds with the likes of Ricky Steamboat, Tito Santana, Hulk Hogan, Jake Roberts, Ric Flair and Diamond Dallas Page. Though he also does seem to get lost in the discussion when talking about all time greats. Hopefully, a new retrospective on Savage will rectify all that.

World Wrestling Entertainment has announced that a new Randy Savage collection is in the works and will be released on November 18th, 2014.

Three editions are planned.

    3-disc DVD
    2-disc Blu-ray
    Collector’s Edition DVD box set

The working title for the release is The Randy Savage Story. According to WrestlingDVDNews.com, Lanny Poffo (aka “The Genius”), Randy’s brother, is reported to be narrating the documentary.

SYNOPSIS

“Macho Man” Randy Savage was best known for his time in World Wrestling Federation (WWF) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Savage held 20 championships during his professional wrestling career. He held 6 world championships between the WWF and WCW, having won the WWF Championship twice and the WCW World Heavyweight Championship four times. A one time WWF Intercontinental Champion, WWE (formerly WWF) has named Savage as the greatest champion of all time.

“The Randy Savage Story” focuses on the life and career of Randy Macho Man Savage. The title chronicles the highs and lows of Randy’s life and career, and shows that while he was extremely driven and highly successful, he was a complex person who also had his struggles over the years. Later in his life, Randy remarried and found peace before his tragic and untimely death.

For the special limited collector’s edition, WWE is repackaging the out of print 2009 Macho Madness three-disc DVD along with the 2014 set – so six DVDs of Macho Madness! – plus the following items:

    • Randy Macho Man Savage T-Shirt
    • Randy Macho Man Savage Bandana
    • Randy Macho Man Savage Sunglasses

As far as content goes, it is hinted that we will get a tribute video (probably Jim Johnston’s remix of “Pomp and Circumstance”). Interviews for the documentary are set to include Lanny Poffo, Judy Poffo (mother), Hulk Hogan, Lex Luger, Diamond Dallas Page, Jerry Lawler, Ricky Steamboat, Kevin Nash, Bret Hart, Jimmy Hart, Gene Okerlund, Ric Flair, Dusty Rhodes, Ted DiBiase and Jake Roberts.
