With Title Shot In Jeopardy Due To Jose Aldo’s Injury, UFC Eyes Dream Match Between Cub Swanson & Frankie Edgar

News

It looks like Cub Swanson’s title shot will have to wait.

After winning a thrilling decision over Jeremy Stephens, and given his six-fight win streak, Cub Swanson was (for all intents and purposes) promised a title shot against the winner of Jose Aldo and Chad Mendes. As UFC fans, know however, Aldo’s injury forced that match to be postponed until late October, which means that Swanson would need to fight again before finally getting. The question about who the featherweight would face instead of Aldo was never in doubt as fans and officials alike have been clamoring for a showdown with Frankie Edgar. The problem was that Swanson had been resisting a match against Edgar… until recently according to MMAFighting.com. Swanson is now reportedly ready to lock horns with the former UFC lightweight champion.

Edgar is coming off a dominating win over B.J. Penn in July and has made no secret of the fact that he wants to take a swipe at Swanson.

According to MMAFighting.com, Swanson initially pushed for a return date in either November or December, which Edgar agreed to, however there have since been preliminary discussions of the fight taking place on October 4th in Sweden at UFC Fight Night 53.
