DVD Review: Bubble Guppies (Get Ready For School!)

DVD Reviews, Reviews

There’s a bit of stress for little ones about to enter kindergarten. Sure they might have gone to a half day preschool. But Kindergarten is a strange new world. The classes are bigger, last longer and the teachers give real grades. Any little thing a parent can find to cut the nervousness is welcomed. Josie is about to enter kindergarten so she was extra happy to watch Bubble Guppies: Get Ready For School! This is an aquatic version of her future. Instead of having her fearful of her first day at the new elementary school, she’s excited. It probably will be a bit of a disappointment that her teacher won’t have fins. That’s a crisis we’ll deal with later. All that matters is she wants to sing “Pencil Box” on a school bus.

There are also a few other episodes on the DVD including “Good Morning, Mr. Grumpfish!,” “Good Hair Day!,” “Check It Out!,” “Construction Psyched!” and “The Moon Rocks!” It’s a well rounded group of topics that feature plenty of catchy songs and dance numbers. This is another fine collection for keeping a kid occupied on a long car ride. The fact that “Get Ready For School!” gives a good picture of kindergarten is helpful for parents. Here’s Josie’s review of the DVD:

The video is 1.33:1 full frame. The transfers are fine for the aquatic CGI action. The audio is Dolby Digital Stereo. The songs really shine in the mix. The episodes are Closed Captioned.

Get Ready For School (1:22) is done with real kids and school experiences mixed with the Bubble Guppies.”

Pencil Case (1:13) ups the Lady Gaga nature of the song and includes lyrics on the screen for kids to sing along.

Pencil Case features the Bubble Guppies and will be going to school with your kid.

Bubble Guppies: Get Ready For School! arrives at the right time for nervous young ones heading off to kindergarten.

Paramount and Nickelodeon present Bubble Guppies: Get Ready For School!. Starring: Bubble Guppies and Bubble Puppy. Boxset Contents: 6 episodes on 1 DVD. Released: July 29, 2014.
