Donald Cerrone vs. Bobby Green Added As Co-Main Event To UFC 178; Updated Card Features 11 Fights

News

There really isn’t anyway to replace Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier on a card, but that doesn’t mean that the UFC can’t try.

Yesterday, officials announced that a match between Donald Cerrone and Bobby Green has been added to the UFC 178 card on September 27 in Las Vegas. The lightweight bout will serve as the co-main event to Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso.

Cerrone (24-6, 1 NC) was reportedly pushing for a match at UFC 178 after hearing about the Jones/Cormier fight being pulled off the card. He also is riding one of the hottest win streaks in the organization after having finished Evan Dunham, Adriano Martins, Edson Barboza, and Jim Miller consecutively. All of Cerrone’s wins occurred within two rounds and he earned a post-fight bonus in each contest.

Green (23-5) comes into the contest after winning the biggest fight of his career. The 27-year-old secure a split decision victory over former Strikeforce lightweight champion John Thomson last month and is now riding an eight-fight win streak.

Green was originally scheduled to face Jorge Masvidal on the UFC 178 but the UFC opted to give him an opponent with a current high-profiler. Masvidal will now challenge James Krause.
