The State of THE RAGER Address (John Cena, Roman Reigns, Daniel Bryan)

Columns, Top Story

Hey there, friends. I swear I’m done (for now) with starting every one of these with an apology about how I haven’t written one of these in a while. It’s been a sporadic summer here at RAGER and it’s been for a combination of things. First of all, I’ve been a lazy prick that’s been writing weekly about wrestling for over 3 years straight now and it’s way easier to just talk about my thoughts on wrestling on Classy Ring Attire than it is for me to struggle to concentrate long enough to type them all out. But then I remember the tiny detail that I’m a writer, first and foremost, and it’s a muscle that should be constantly exercised because god knows it’s the only exercising that does me any good. Secondly, a big part of RAGER consists of my thoughts on the current week’s edition of Raw but doing 10 Thoughts is my vehicle for such things these days. And finally, and this is the major one, CM Punk made this whole thing a lot more interesting to talk about back in 2011 and then it carried into Daniel Bryan. Notice that I started losing interest the more it became clear that CM Punk wasn’t coming back anytime soon or at all and then I started skipping RAGERs all together once Bryan left with his injury.

I don’t wanna bury the current WWE talent because from top to bottom, this might be the most talented roster they’ve ever had, NXT roster included. The problem right now is that the writing/booking hasn’t quite caught up yet. Instead of talented Divas like Paige, AJ, and Natalya getting longer ring time, we get goated into watching the Bella twins take a giant acting twosie all over the ring and roll around in it when all we wanted was more Stephanie.

I’ll give WWE credit for what makes sense right now. Yeah, I’m not thrilled that they’re leaning so heavily on a part-timer that gave up on them 12 years ago but Brock is a huge name and he’s the one they decided to go with breaking the streak and so he needs to be unstoppable even against Cena. I’m just scared WWE is just gonna retreat and have Cena finally overcome the odds (again) and beat Lesnar at NoC or soon thereafter or, even worse, have Lesnar lose to another part-timer at WM31. I swear, if the streak breaker gets pinned after a damn People’s Elbow, I will punch my roommate Ed harder than I normally do. Ideally Brock gets pinned at Mania by one of the former Shield members. Obviously Roman is the one currently being bred for such a thing but any member could do it and it would be golden.

Ultimately, this is just to say that I’ve had my sort-of vacation this summer and I am now going to invigorate my weekly efforts to grind out both this and 10 Thoughts and I have each and every one of you to hold me accountable. Like, for real, I want you all to be as harsh as necessary if I start to slack off. And I say all this in an article that’s not really saying anything because I couldn’t think of anything decent to write about. The irony isn’t lost on me but it should at least show you that I’m back and I’m gonna do what I can.

In the meantime, if there’s a certain subject you’d like to see me tackle one week, let me know and I will speak on it with absolute authority regardless of if I know what I’m talking about or not. That’s THE RAGER guarantee. I’ll see you all next Wednesday.

Don’t do anything I wouldn’t do twice,
Chris

The Answer: I’d download that new card game app WWE put out but I don’t feel like playing Magic: The Wrestling.
