Breaking News: Renan Barao Doesn’t Make Weight, Out Of Tomorrow Night’s UFC 177 Main Event

News, Top Story

Wow.

Renan Barao is out of the UFC 177 main event tomorrow night.

The former bantamweight champion Renan Barao was scheduled to face off against UFC 135-pound champion T.J. Dillashaw in a main event rematch between the pair on Saturday. Barao was forced out of the match after complications during his weight cut.

The UFC scrambled and replaced Barao with Joe Soto (15-2) who was originally slated to take on Anthony Birchak on the preliminaries. The news was first reported by Combate and ESPN.

This is the second main event switch for the jinxed UFC 177 card. Flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson and Chris Cariaso were set to touch gloves but were pushed to UFC 178 earlier this month, after the Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier light heavyweight championship fight was also delayed due to an injury.

MMAFighting.com is reporting that Barao felt dizzy when leaving the tub in his hotel room and hit his head against the wall. The bantamweight passed out and was rushed to the hospital.

Clearly T.J. Dillashaw is skeptical.

“(Barao) is scared. He doesn’t want it,” he said. “His coaches wanted the rematch more than he did. He’s never missed weight before. It’s kinda funny he does it now.”
