On Wednesday, I had the chance to catch up with runner-up Valerie Rockey at the So You Think You Can Dance 11 finale in Los Angeles.
I asked Valerie if it was bittersweet to place second, getting so far and just finishing short of being named the winner. We also talked about how important being placed with a great partner at the beginning of the live shows is as fans seem to identify the dancers as a team and how that worked in Valerie’s favour as she was partnered with the show’s winner, Ricky Ubeda, from the start of the contest. I asked her if tap dancers are getting more respect on the show, considering the recent successes of her, Zack Everhart and Aaron Turner in the past couple of seasons. She also talked about how special it was to dance with Ricky prior to them learning who America’s Favorite Dancer was as that has never happened on any other season of So You Think You Can Dance. Finally, Valerie continued my So You Think You Can Dance finale tradition of the finalists teaching me a dance move.
