UFC Gives Alistair Overeem One Last Chance Against Stefan Struve At UFC On FOX 13 In December

News

Alistair Overeem must have been a cat in a former life because the heavyweight fighter seems to have nine lives.

Overeem just lost to Ben Rothwell at UFC Fight Night: Jacare vs. Mousasi on September 5 in Connecticut and the loss was Reem’s third TKO loss in five UFC bouts.

After beating Brock Lesnar in his UFC debut in 2011, Overeem has consistently disappointed. He failed a drug test in 2012 that stopped a potential title shot against then-champ Junior dos Santos in its tracks. He then lost two fights in a row to Bigfoot Silva and Travis Brown. While he won a match against Frank Mir by decision, his embarrassing loss to Ben Rothwell seems to be what he is most remembered for right now.

Struve hasn’t been in the Octagon since a TKO loss to Mark Hunt in March, 2013. In August of last year it was revealed that Struve has a heart defect called a bicuspid aortic valve. While many believed the illness would cause the fighter to retire, he was still booked to fight Matt Mitrione at UFC 175. A panic attack on fight night prevented Struve from returning that night.
