Tonight marks the season premiere of The Flash on CTV and The CW.

The Arrow spin-off is the story of Barry Allen (played by Glee‘s Grant Gustin).

After witnessing his mother’s murder and his father being wrongly accused, Allen is taken in by Detective West and his family in Central City. As he enters adulthood, Allen begins to work for the Central City Police Department and while researching cold cases (hoping to find his mother’s true killer), Allen uncovers Harrison Wells’ particle accelerator and is struck by lightning at the same time. After being in a coma for nine months, Allen awakes to find that he now has the ability to move at lightning fast speed and wants to use his new power to protect his city.

Earlier this summer, I caught up with The Flash‘s Candice Patton and Danielle Panabaker to discuss the series.

Patton plays Iris West, Allen’s unrequited love interest on the series while Panabaker assumes the role of Caitlin Snow (AKA Killer Frost) one of the show’s central villains.

I asked the pair how excited they were to work on The Flash and why superhero shows have almost become the norm in television today. I also asked them if they worried about being scrutinized by fans of the comics who might think that the show isn’t sticking to the DC storylines. Finally, I asked them what it was like to work with Grant Gustin.
