Mama said knock you out and in this case, ‘mama’ is Marloes Coenen.
The recently-signed fighter says she isn’t sure what makes her hone in on an opponent, but that she always knows what she has to do. In the case of her match this Friday against Annalisa Bucci, only a knockout will suffice.
“Quite honestly, I don’t know what drives or motivates me,” Coenen told MMAjunkie. “It’s just how I am. I never realized that there is a ‘stop’ option when I am training and fighting. With Bellator, I want to inspire other women to fight and I want to make (President) Scott Coker satisfied that he chose to sign me again.”
The fighter continued and explained why knocking Bucci out is a top priority.
“I want to amp up my KO ratio in Bellator,” she said. “My trainer always laughs when I win, but not on a knockout. He knows how frustrated I am about this. And I hope I can help to build the division by attracting more women to Bellator and help to build the brand.
“I never want to leave it into the hand of the judges, and I prefer a KO over a submission.”
