Dan Gilroy’s Nightcrawler isn’t a comedy, but that’s not the vibe you get from a new red band promo for its October 31st opening. The film stars Jake Gyllenhaal doing another masterful turn as Lou Bloom, a guy just looking for a steady job. While job searching he comes across a “nightcrawler,” who are night-owl videographers and the first cameras on the scene to capture footage of fires, car accidents and murders to sell to local news outlets. Next thing you know Lou is a do-it-yourself-er listening to police scanners to find a big opportunity at making some money. Just point and shoot.
In a bit of humor, distributor Open Road Films has unveiled this restricted trailer to entice viewership. But it’s not your ordinary press-hype promo. Do check it out.
