Following Win Over Chad Mendes, Jose Aldo Breaks Down Featherweight Contenders, Calls McGregor ‘A Joker’

News

Following his impressive win over Chad Mendes, Jose Aldo has a pretty good idea of how the other featherweights in his division stack up… even if the UFC doesn’t.

“I think the court is complete,” Aldo said after his successful title defense at UFC 179 in Rio de Janeiro on Saturday night. “I’m the king, Chad’s the prince, and now we have a joker.”

While Aldo didn’t name names, it was clear he was referring to the mouthy Conor McGregor who was sitting cageside for Aldo’s win.

With a host of contenders lining up for a shot at the belt including the winner of Dennis Bermudez and Ricardo Lamas at UFC 180 and the winner of Cub Swanson and Frankie Edgar at UFC Fight Night 57, Aldo thinks that it should come down to the fighter who has faced the toughest road to get to him. For the champion, that is anyone but McGregor.

“He’s a guy that just talks,” Aldo said of McGregor. “He hasn’t fought anyone.”
