I had the chance to interview So You Think You Can Dance 11‘s Tanisha Belnap & Rudy Abreu on October 26, 2014 just before their Live! Tour Stop at Hamilton Place Theatre in Hamilton, Ontario.
In our interview, we discussed a variety of topics including what the tour has been like so far. I asked them why they thought fans of So You Think You Can Dance connected with their partnership to such a degree and if this could be attributed to the fact that they came from different styles. I asked if showing personality was just as important as being a good dancer on the show as fans always seem to vote for the dancers that they feel the most connected to. I asked Tanisha if she was every worried about Rudy’s commitment considering how much the show focused on his blossoming romance with Jacque LeWarne. The most fascinating part of the interview is when Rudy offers us an update on the status of his relationship with Jacque now and how things have progressed after the show. I asked Rudy if he thinks America got to know him the best considering how he entered the competition with his best friend (Nick Garcia) who was eliminated before him and then we learned about the new romantic relationship he had developed. I asked Tanisha why fans seemed to connect more with contemporary and tap this season instead of ballroom and hip hop as has been the case in previous years and she thinks each season has its own predominant genre. The pair shared their favorite routines of the season and Rudy attempted (key word being ‘attempted’) to identify Tanisha’s. Rudy revealed that he is trying to get cast on the Newsies tour after the So You Think You Can Dance tour wraps up in February while Tanisha said that she is planning a cruise to Greece for her birthday. Tanisha and I also talked about our mutual friend, Chelsie Hightower.
