Mitch Gagnon believes he can not only beat Renan Barao, but submit the heavy-favoured Brazilian.
The two will meet at UFC Fight Night on December 20 and despite his opponent’s home field advantage in Brazil, the Canadian believes he has what it takes to win.
“Yeah, I definitely think I can (submit Barao),” he said. “I will put the pressure on him and if he makes any mistake, I’ll definitely be getting a submission.”
Gagnon has won his last four fights, and realizes the impact that a win over Barao can have on his career.
“I’m not looking at that that much, but yeah, it definitely puts me on the map. It definitely takes me right up there,” he said. “This is the biggest fight of my career, I’m fighting excellent champion, so it’s definitely huge.”
UFC Fight Night: Barueir takes place at the Ginásio José Corrêa in Barueri, Brazil on December 20, and will be headlined by a middleweight match-up between Lyoto Machida and C.B. Dollaway.
